Protesters, lawmakers to demonstrate in Pennsylvania capital against stay-at-home order: 'Not sustainable'
Fox News ^ | April 20 2020 | Tyler Olson

In the latest of a wave of protests that have spread across the U.S., lawmakers and protesters who say Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf's stay-at-home order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus is too strict are staging a drive-in protest in Harrisburg on Monday, following other states like Michigan, North Carolina and others that have seen similar events.

The demonstration, planned for noon on Monday, comes after state Republican lawmakers passed a bill last week that would mandate the state follow federal guidelines offered by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on which workers should be considered "essential," rather than the more strict order the Democratic governor currently has in place. Wolf is expected to veto the bill, but protest organizers say they hope for a loosening of restrictions starting on May 1.

"We will have endured nearly 7 weeks of lock down when May 1st arrives and the end of these restrictions has remained indefinite," the organizers say in a release about the event. "Business owners are being forced to layoff employees while the unemployment system is failing those laid off and the economy free falls. Pennsylvanians deserve more than just endless extensions. It is not sustainable to continue the shut down as the economic and societal consequences may be irreversible."

I live in Pa and I can’t name one thing Wolf had done to stop this pandemic. Also a guy with prostate cancer shouldn’t be running anything never mind Pennsytucky. Pa is #4 out of all the states.

while the unemployment system is failing those laid off...”

When the economy is shut down there is no longer any there there. The basis for EVERYTHING is the economy. The “tell” that the shut down is purely political derangement is the ignoring of this fact. It is like being in a building and pulling out the buildings key support because you want to take down someone else in the building. In short, pure Evil.

I also live in Pennsylvania and his strident support of tearing babies apart limb for limb while their little brains are being punctured with a knife is demented, to say the least. Anybody that supports this craven practice is beyond redemption. just sayin’

When Wolf closed all the PA industries, he kept his own factories running until it was discovered and he was shamed into closing. But now that he’ll get gubmint checks, he wants to STAY shut down and to blazes with anyone WITHOUT connections. He’s a very crooked, dishonest man. Should we trust a democRAT; a man who is enthusiastically in favor of murdering babies in the womb? Dear God; what have we become?!

And lumping everyone together. Instances of the virus out here in Western PA. are fairly low, and most deaths are, unfortunately, from nursing homes. This is mainly an eastern show. The best thing we in the west could do to stay safe is blow the tunnels on the turnpike.

I have it anecdotally that if your construction biz was using Wolf’s cabinets you could also stay open.   If using someone else’s, well...

According to a State Rep I know, behind the scenes Wolf wants a $15 minimum wage and “healthcare for all” in return for reopening the state.

"Instances of the virus out here in Western PA. are fairly low, and most deaths are, unfortunately, from nursing homes. This is mainly an eastern show."

We're in the first county where the Gov started his restrictions. Now that we're getting more detailed stats, the picture is more clear. Last time I checked ~73% of deaths in our county were nursing home residents or staff. Our son works in an ER, and his hours are being cut because they don't have enough volume to justify current staffing levels. The hospital is furloughing many employees and bleeding money. We asked our son what he's seeing in the ER and he says some of the COVID patients are coming in near death, but they are nearly all old and/or obese. They aren't being overwhelmed by volume.

I don't discount the value of our elderly citizens, but clearly the highest mortality risk is for those who are old or are of compromised health. This doesn't justify ongoing shutdown of the entire state, and given the numbers, I wouldn't even continue the level of shutdown we have in the eastern end of the state. We gave our health care system the breathing room to ramp up and develop treatments. At this point, I think we should be opening up the economy while protecting the vulnerable. We'll see a spike in cases, but we know more than we did 2 months ago, and summer sunlight, warmth, and humidity are all likely to help. Let's roll.

That would not surprise me at all.
