Superficially, one would say: of course it did. New York is by far the worst center of Wuhan virus infection in the U.S. The extent to which the New York metropolitan area drives U.S. COVID-19 statistics was documented by Matt Margolis at PJ Media. Currently the U.S. ranks eighth among countries in COVID fatalities per capita. But if we treat New York and its environs as a country, it is easily the worlds hottest COVID hot spot, with per capita fatalities double those in Spain and more than double those in Italy, while the rest of the U.S.everything except New York Citydoesnt make the top 10.
....It would be easy to blame New York Citys disastrous performance on incompetent leadership from Governor Andy Cuomo, Mayor Bill DeBlasio, and the citys leadership team generally. But there are specific reasons why New York poses larger challenges than any other metro area, as I noted here. It is considerably more densely populated than any other U.S. city. More important, it has ten times the public transportation ridership of any other city, overwhelmingly on subways. For obvious reasons, public transportation is suspect number one when we are looking for virus transmission sites.

Subways. Ick O Rama.
Lots of Freepers including me, have been saying the same thing about the overcrowded New York Subway trains for weeks.
Clear fail.
Mass transportation. It’s good for mother planet.
The subway is like New York City’s intestines.
Yes
But will Andrew or Bill be called out for leaving the subway system open?
The next factor to look at is public housing.
Were some “super spreaders” working the NYC subways?
I’ve heard it suggested that elevator use might also account for the NYC numbers.
+. I believe so.
That’s a visual I can live without. Thanks.
No.
Add to that a ban on single use plastic bags that just took effect two months ago ... much like San Francisco and Seattle and Milan

Note that grocery stores were considered essential and remained open in each of those cities.

Why didn’t the same thing happen in San Francisco with the BART system?
Reminds me of the time I was having trouble with our second car idling and couldn't seem to fix the problem. I replaced every ignition component I could think of, with no success.
"Maybe it's the carburetor," suggested my wife.
"It can't be the carburetor," I replied.
"Why not?" she wanted to know.
"Because," I said, only half-jokingly, "I can't fix a carburetor."
So it would appear that we shut down the entire country because the Democrats did not close the subway in New York.
In other words everyone in the country lost their jobs, and businesses and their investments because of the dumb asses in NYC!
