Fox keeps a rolling coronavirus screen going.

The numbers might be fudged, from what I’m reading, but yesterday there was something in the neighborhood of 40,000 dead. That’s a lot.

Some one has to keep the gears going to produce the things we need to fight the disease as well as the other things we need just to survive day by day as a nation or chaos and rioting related to food shortages and new onset poverty not directly relatable to covid will start padding the death counts shortly.

That is what is on the flubros’ minds. They are in a kind of denial but they are right in their conclusions. We are going to have to work out a way to continue our economy while living with the disease until it peters out.

That is a lot of deaths. It's about the same number of people a year who die in motor vehicle accidents, but motor vehicles are still legal. Its also about a 1/10th the number of smoking related deaths, but tobacco is still legal.

We had 61,000 deaths in the 2017-2018 flu season. Up to this point, even with inflated statistics (Counting any death a COVID-19 death if the person died and tested positive for COVID-19, even if the actual cause of death was a heart attack), we have not yet exceeded typical flu season range.

Disease Burden of Influenza

And the vast majority of deaths are elderly.

This is what drives me crazy. No 40,000 is not a lot of people considering we know nothing about them. I mean if 40,000 were killed in a bombing that’s one thing. Those are deaths that would not happen save for the bomb. In this instance we nothing of these 40k How many were already deathly ill, would have been dead within the year anyway actually died directly from Wuhan and not Cancer or heart disease etc, without complete info the number of dead is meaningless. The damn economic devastation is clear as damn bell however! This shutdown has the biggest nuclear bomb ever detonated
