Dr. Phil is attempting some clean-up after generating outrage in a Fox News coronavirus segment, admitting he used "bad examples" and taking a sorry-if-you-were-offended approach.
TV host Phil McGraw on Thursday appeared on Laura Ingraham's Fox News show to speculate about why lockdown measures are being put in place during the coronavirus pandemic when "we don't shut the country down" for deaths from car accidents and swimming pools, wrongly claiming 360,000 people die in swimming pools in the United States every year.
After the segment drew outrage, McGraw, who isn't a medical doctor, on Friday said he does support social distancing measures amid the pandemic and walked back this comparison to other causes of deaths that are not contagious like the coronavirus.
"Last night, I said we as a society have chosen to live with certain controllable deadly risk every day: smoking, auto crashes, swimming," he said. "And yes, I know that those are not contagious. So probably bad examples. Probably bad examples. ... I probably could have used better examples about that."

But, I do agree with Dr. Phil that we cannot live without taking any risk...
Too bad he didn’t mention abortions — that would have been good.
Okay, but if you go on TV and say 360,000 people die in swimming pools annually when the real number is more like 3,500... you gotta apologize. He wasn’t even close.
But I want to chose the risks that I live with, not have them chosen for me by someone else.
I see correcting yourself, but not apologizing.
Too many sensitive shitbirds in this country.
You all realize whats going on here, right? While he made an error or two, if he had done this interview on any network other than FoxNews, no one would have complained. The critics are just trying to punish him for appearing on Fox.
He apologizes for this...meanwhile other stations guests are calling Trump a murderer.
Agreed. How many abortions every year, Dr.PhilIdiot?
Yeah, better example. gg /s
Actually, auto crashes are "contagious" - from certain point of view.
Someone innocently sitting in his parked vehicle or innocently walking across a pedestrian crossing or etc. can be killed by, e.g., a drunk driver.
And passive smoking is a danger.
Regards,
Im with Dr. Phil. Due to the intense contagion of this new virus, and not to overwhelm our medical system, I have been ok with this month or so long quarantine. Now that we have treatments that work, we need to slowly open everything back up. The risk of the virus and being sick with a flu like illness is bad but so are a million other things we Americans have the freedom to do in our desire to pursue happiness.
We can weigh 500 lbs and buy whole pizzas and down them. We can rock climb without ropes. We can smoke 3 packs a day. We can drink a 5th of vodka. We can head to the gay bar or deep into the park and have unprotected anal sex with dozens of strangers. All legal and risky. Freedom is more important than perfect safety. Insert Ben Franklin quote here.
The critics are just trying to punish him for appearing on Fox.

I agree...
The mainstream media is not happy with Dr. Phil because he does not support the shutdown for several months...
862,000 abortions in USA in 2017
Any time the "lives are being saved!" argument is made, you then should ask how many more would have died if we hadn't invoked a second Great Depression.
They never discuss or answer that, because it would be the same number as a regular flu season and this is another Deep State hoax, there finest one yet, apparently....
People with false beliefs are enraged by facts.
So, I can’t compare Chicom virus deaths to deaths from autoerotic asphyxiation?
just a variation on a theme for leftists...
“its for the chil-dren!” while simultaneously aborting as many chikdren as they can. Masters of smoke and mirrors as well as projection.
Immediately after fake impeachment... “we’re gonna need a bigger hoax!”
How come we did not shut down the country for seasonal influenza?
At least 40 states have more seasonal flu deaths than COVID deaths - including California, Texas, and Florida, the three largest states in the USA.
Also - if we counted up influenza deaths the same way we count up COVID deaths, the flu death total would be higher than COVID in all 50 states!
Flu must be further down on the list...just like ours is....
