Government coronavirus expert Dr. Anthony Fauci says that heartsick isolationists can hook up with asymptomatic Tinder matches in real life — but, like love, it involves some risk.
The 79-year-old immunologist dropped the unorthodox dating tip in a Tuesday interview on Snapchat’s “Good Luck America.”
Toward the end of the taped segment, Fauci was asked: “If you’re swiping on a dating app like Tinder, or Bumble or Grindr, and you match with someone that you think is hot, and you’re just kind of like, ‘Maybe it’s fine if this one stranger comes over.’ What do you say to that person?”
“You know, that’s tough,” replied the befuddled National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director to the curveball. “Because that’s what’s called relative risk.”

He added, “If you want to go a little bit more intimate, well, then that’s your choice regarding a risk.”

I haven't listened to the man at all, because I haven't listened to any of the task force press conferences since they started. And I don't watch any TV news...haven't for a good many years. There is nothing they can advise me to do that I haven't been doing all along. I've been social distancing since I retired in 2003. I could teach a class on it.

i re-read the excerpt. i did see the asymptomatic caveat but i find it difficult to figure out why that should make a difference during a pandemic shelter in place such as currently exists in my state (california).
maybe dr. fauci is addressing the more general case, such as the future, or states that have no order

as of april 6, 8 states have no shelter in place order:
ND, WY, SD, IA, UT, NE, AR, OK.
so... i wonder if it would be correct to posit that dr. fauci’s statement is not in conflict with approximately 8 states emergency orders.
still that leaves the president’s 30 day recommendation.

So perhaps dr. fauci’s view is that social visits do not include casual sex with strangers? and that his comments also implicitly do not apply in 42 states?
