Two years before the novel coronavirus pandemic upended the world, U.S. Embassy officials visited a Chinese research facility in the city of Wuhan several times and sent two official warnings back to Washington about inadequate safety at the lab, which was conducting risky studies on coronaviruses from bats. The cables have fueled discussions inside the U.S. government about whether this or another Wuhan lab was the source of the virus even though conclusive proof has yet to emerge.
In January 2018, the U.S. Embassy in Beijing took the unusual step of repeatedly sending U.S. science diplomats to the Wuhan Institute of Virology...
What the U.S. officials learned during their visits concerned them so much that they dispatched two diplomatic cables categorized as Sensitive But Unclassified back to Washington. The cables warned about safety and management weaknesses at the WIV lab and proposed more attention and help. The first cable, which I obtained, also warns that the labs work on bat coronaviruses and their potential human transmission represented a risk of a new SARS-like pandemic.
During interactions with scientists at the WIV laboratory, they noted the new lab has a serious shortage of appropriately trained technicians and investigators needed to safely operate this high-containment laboratory, states the Jan. 19, 2018, cable...
its research on bat coronaviruses was important but also dangerous...
there is no evidence that the virus now plaguing the world was engineered; scientists largely agree it came from animals. But that is not the same as saying it didnt come from the lab, which spent years testing bat coronaviruses in animals...
the market didnt sell bats...
Several of the doctors and journalists who reported on the spread early on have disappeared...

Possible Chinese Nuclear Testing Stirs U.S. Concern
Beijing might secretly be conducting small nuclear tests at its Lop Nur site, report says

It would seem that there is a drip, drip of stories from unlikely media outlets about China’s perfidy in this whole mess.
I found a way to read the whole article. Thank you.
I think it was poor control in that bio-lab that let a virus out that was being studied for legitimate research or bio weapon research.
“No! No bat! We sell CAT!”
Actually, this article looks like w warning shot, maybe by a group of good guys in the State Department. They not only have the goods on this, but it's convincing enough that the US media will see it's pointless to try to hide it and will pivot to chasing pulitzers instead.
The doctors and journalists will be on the next episode of the Walking Dead.
Sorry it’s the Post. Fool me once shame on you.....
The cable was a warning shot, one U.S. official said. They were begging people to pay attention to what was going on.
my first question... if this is true, how can the US just move people in to “Approve” of a chinese Lab?? fkn stupid...
WaPo getting out ahead of something they know is about to be confirmed.
WUHAN CHINA virus.
CommunistChina OK to let it spread worldwide.
Cancel all debts to Communist China.
Instead, an unnamed source leaks the internal State Department correspondence to a reporter for one of the most anti-Trump newspapers in America?
