Auburn is a small town in the foothills of the Sierras on the way to Lake Tahoe. I-80 runs through it, and it's where most travelers stop for gas, potty, and chains before heading up the mountain.

I thought the hill country was supposed to be more conservative. I guess even the small towns are infected with liberal politicians; I wonder why conservatives keep voting for them?

Conservatives don't vote them in...all these foothill towns have become bedroom communities for Sacramento and the central valley cities, and the usual cast of liberal nutters.

Auburn, Placerville, Folsom, Jackson, all used to be sparsely populated ranching communities until the hordes from the valley decided they would rather live in the country and deal with the long daily commute to the valley. They pretty much ruined the foothills.
