Only did one medevac from a sub - in the Adriatic - and it was a bad day with heavy seas. Thankfully we had a Rhib and not those old, clumsy MWB’s.

Tincans were not a sub Sailors dream but Roger made it and never complained. The attitudes were similar in the guys that sailed on them. Small ships going in harms way. Got a bitch? Bring it. We got an answer. :)

Just before I got to the Azores, a Soviet Sub surfaced in the harbor and dropped off a Soviet seaman headed to the hospital. The Portuguese were a little more friendly with them back then. And yes, they probably were scoping us out. I'm sure the NAF knew of his approach and what he was there for long before he knocked on the door, since that was their mission.
