We need more data on COVID-19 to better understand how to fight it. You can help.
At this time, most of us are sheltering-at-home trying to minimize the spread of the virus. As you may have read or heard, it has been challenging to track rates of infection. You are invited to help address this challenge by taking less than a minute each day to log your health status on a newly developed COVID-19 Symptom Tracker. After initially spending ~5 minutes downloading an app and providing some basic descriptive facts (e.g., age, zip code), the daily task is simply to note if you are healthy vs. have any symptoms. Thats all.
If you agree to participate, you will be asked to download an App (available for both iPhone and Android) and answer a few questions daily. After downloading the App, you will be asked whether you are associated with a study population or organization and you should say yes; then you will see a screen where you will be able to check the box Stanford Nutrition Studies Group. This will allow the App to send your data back to us, so that we can analyze it and combine it with any data we may have collected from your participation in one of our past studies.
This app has been developed by a research partner of mine at Kings College in the UK that I have now been collaborating with on nutrition studies for the past year, Dr. Timothy Spector, and Zoe Global Ltd. The app is currently in use in the UK, and we would like to extend participation to the US.
We hope you will share this friends, family, and colleagues. The more people that use the app the more helpful it will be.
All data are for non-commercial purposes to help fight the pandemic.
If you have an iPhone, click here to download the App or look for COVID 19 Symptom Tracker in your App store. If you have an Android phone, go to the COVID-19 Symptom Tracker Website to download the App. If you have questions about using the App, email covidtrackingquestions-us@joinzoe.com.
Thank you! Christopher Gardner, PhD Director of Nutrition Studies, Stanford Prevention Research Center The Rehnborg Farquhar Professor of Medicine at Stanford University Email: nutrition@stanford.edu Participants rights questions, contact 1-866-680-2906
If you are inclined to assist, click on the URL to be taken to the original email hosted at MailChimp. It has clickable links to load the map on your mobile device.
Unfortunately, Dr. Gardner does not provide much information on how the data will be used, what he is investigating, or what he hopes to learn.
It doesn't seem to be anywhere near as ambitious as the Apple / Google system in development which will alert you to the fact that you were near somebody who tested positive for COVID.
I should volunteer and keep posting It hurts when I pee every day.
Or "My balls feel like a pair of maracas"
Does the app also track your location?
No idea...they put out the bare minimum info. You just enter “I’m Feeling Fine” or “I Feel Like I”m Fixin’ to Die.”
