South Dakota is now on my list of states to consider relocation.
That makes two of us. (Assuming, that is, that the present nonsense comes to an end and none of the states between here and there decide to close their borders and/or forbid interstate travel.)
“South Dakota is now on my list of states to consider relocation.” [GSWarrior, post 6]
“...South Dakota will be one of the first states bringing itself out of lockdown...” [Candor7, post 7]
Before making any commitments, consider the following:
South Dakota produced George S McGovern, Tom Daschle, Tim Johnson, and a fair number of other liberal Democrats.
South Dakota won’t be coming out of statewide lockdown because there hasn’t been any. Gov Noem has (so far) left it to the discretion of local officials.
No month is entirely free of snow. Blizzards are common. So are high winds. Military personnel assigned here after a tour in Alaska often find winters in South Dakota more trying.
Summers can be dangerously hot and dry. Daily high temperatures frequently exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit from July through mid-September. Wildland fires can occur at any time - on the High Plains or in the forests.
