Because he was Hispanic, of course. Everybody understands this by now. News media will only mention race or ethnic background for White people involved in criminal activities.

The family name is from Mexico. It is found in California, Texas, Colorado, Utah, and Pennsylvania. This perpetrator was most likely a US citizen, borne of US citizen parents, who were 2nd-generation immigrants.
