The reason for the internment camps for Japanese as WWII started was mostly because citizens were stopping Japanese in cars, pulling them out, and beating them severely. Pulling them off trains and buses. Also mobbing Japanese houses. And turning in spies and traitors to vigilante friends. US started to round them up and protect the Japanese in camps. Malkin talks in her book on the camps about the loyalty that the Japanese held for their native country. It was definitely a security issue. At that time many had been born and raised in Japan. Not like now.
