I have no idea where the stock market stands.

I have watched the stock market and have been very frustrated with the fear mongering and panic.

As it stands my meager 401k has lost around $37,000.00 and rallied back up $20,000.00.   I have a managed account so I had no interaction.

As Ned (the Head) Ryerson said about the actuarial tables, "Hey! It's all one big crapshoot anyhoo."   And I do have an annuity for some risk aversion.

I also do not watch any "News" except OANN in the afternoon.   I was shocked last week to see that my wife likes Graham Ledger.

I cannot stress enough to people that they need to turn the TV off. Unless they are streaming a movie or TV show on Netflix of something.

Cable news is toxic. 100% negative with no redeeming value whatsoever.

During this period I've taken some very nice hikes, have gotten a lot of good books read and have discovered a lot of great music. All this when I'm not working from home.

Agreed. Devastating the economy like this will kill hundreds of thousands in various ways—and weaken us significantly against the aggression of China (e.g. https://twitter.com/yohiobaseball/status/1249397912670474241).

But sadly, teens and others commit suicide all the time. I saw one survey of kids enjoying the time with their families at home.

I have been worried and anxious for over a month now. I haven’t slept well, and I don’t like getting out of bed.

I’m kind of worried about getting CV, but my main worries are the economy, and the democrats. The tyranny of liberal governors and mayors right now are scaring me. Until we can reopen, I will worry that our rights are slipping away. I don’t watch the news, but I do listen to talk radio and read FR. Sometimes, I don’t want to read the articles, but then I am obsessed with reading - it’s like an addiction.

My biggest fear is that the liberals will steal the election, or that people will blame Trump if the economy isn’t going to be better by November. I’m scared about Pelosi, Hillary, and basically scared for our country if they manage to steal the election and change our beloved free country to some communist state. Sometimes, I want to move, but I don’t know where to move to.

I guess I won’t feel better until after Trump has won re-election.

This is precisely the sort of situation the POTUS has in mind when he says that “the cure cannot be worse than the disease”.

I just talked to my guy on Friday. The S&P has lost 18%. My fund has lost 11%. That’s pretty acceptable given the times. I don’t know how my 401K is doing through work.

The company I work for took a really hard stock hit but is actually doing pretty well through this. I had some cash in the account and even though I missed the good window, I had him buy $5,000 more of their stock.

It’s the only individual stock I own and probably only 3-4% of my portfolio.

And you know what, deaths like this person’s are completely acceptable to FR’s Coronavirus Groupie Brigade (CGB). The number one goal of CGB’s is safety at all costs! If that means losing some freedoms and liberties, or a few lives of those who can’t tolerate living in hysteria, fear, and isolation...well, tough sh*t!

CGB’s are cousins of the DUmmies!

Yup, I’m a chick, and I live in a blue state (CA). Well, say something to make me feel better. I do worry about the liberals. Pelosi is evil, and I am scared for what she and they can and will try to do.

Prolonged isolation will push people predisposed to such things over the edge.

All alone in an underground missile silo, all alone in a POW cell in Viet Nam, all alone among your mates in a nuclear submarine, or all alone in the myriad of circumstances of untold trillions since the dawn of man.   To be human is to be all alone.

People should be taught fortitude at a young age instead of coddling or enabling.   John Donne wrote that no man is an island, yet there is also an obligation to forge ahead as an individual through life's adversities.

Lots of people who are near the brink of lots of things end up heading in different directions than they would have when major things happen.

It’s part of the human condition.

Pretending that we are in a very simple system with one variable, or a handful of variables that we grasp, and so can alter the system in major ways without all sorts of unforeseen consequences is hubris to the nines.

In Alaska it’s called cabin fever. Happens a lot when they are shut in during winter.

When I was stationed in Galena, AK, I was the head of entertainment of all kinds for the site and didn’t have one suicide attempt in the year I was there. Got the Air Force Achievement Medal for it. They didn’t give a lot of them out as that didn’t happen often.
