Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's order closing public school buildings also bans homeschooling, which is unconstitutional, contends a legal non-profit in the state.
"The Great Lakes Justice Center calls upon Gov. Whitmer to correct this unconstitutional action and assure parents in Michigan that they may continue to safely home school their own children while the EO is in effect," the organization said in a statement Thursday.
The April 2 order states "in-person instruction for pupils in kindergarten through grade 12 … is suspended for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year."
It applies to all "non-public ... schools in the state."
"The governor clearly has the authority to close school buildings," the legal team acknowledged. However, "Michigan law defines home schools as nonpublic schools."
That means the executive order bars parents from directly teaching their children at home, the organization argued.
"While this may be an unintended consequence of faulty drafting, the EO's plain language bans all 'in-person instruction' of all children."

Once missteps are not addressed precedents are set. I think the Great Lakes Justice Center is correct in calling her on it to set the record straight “in writing”.

I think it is a stretch to say that she “banned” homeschooling anymore than she banned American flags, when that was really just a consequence of her stupid idea of banning “non-essential” sales, and not actually banning American flags specifically.
Obviously no one is being banned from teaching kids at home since that is what people are doing now as a result of the schools being closed.
Seriously some people on our side are setting her up to be able to make us look like idiots if we keep trying to go for click-bait headlines, instead of concentrating on the meat of why these orders in general of just bad on their own.

What scares me is that Michigan and Pennsylvania went Trump but elected total liberal a-holes as governors. If Trump loses one,it could get bumpy. If he loses both,the odds are grim.

The first mistake was thinking that people actually would attempt thinking past the headline.
It was probably intended. You can’t have those home schooled kids showing up the public school collective. The public school collective kids are watching cartoons and vegetating while the home schoolers are doing their normal routine. Communists, such as the Comrade Governor, cannot stand that .... it makes them look less powerful and stupid.
Agreed, after looking at it. Homeschooling ban is a stretch. Who would know anyway?

Define homeschool? If boning up the childs arithmetic with flash cards, or using the dictionary to bolster language, or any number of enhancements is considered homeschooling than this is pure nonsense.
Governor Half Whitman is a fascist whore. I hope the people of Michigan rebel, drag her body through the street, string her up in a public square, eviscerate her innards making them outwards, chop her head off with a dull axe and sever her four limbs to be sent to four corners of Michigan and lastly place her head on a pike for all to see. It depends on the state. In North Carolina, I’m the Chief Administrator of an official Non-Public School. I have a card and a number and stuff, and we’re on a list.
