best nurse i ever had in an ER was a former military medic, both ridiculously competent and surprisingly compassionate ...
In 1990, my pickup was t-boned on the interstate by an 18-wheeler. A bunch of broken ribs, fractured pelvis, and lost almost 7 pints of blood. The ER doc who got me was a point man in a Marine Rifle platoon in Vietnam (NOT a medic, a full-bore grunt). 30 years later, which included marriage, running a marathon, a hitch in the Army, and four kids, I'd love to thank Dr. Soul for stitching me up.
