SACRAMENTO, Calif. A man found dead in his house in early March. A woman who fell sick in mid-February and later died.
These early COVID-19 deaths in the San Francisco Bay Area suggest that the novel coronavirus had established itself in the community long before health officials started looking for it. The lag time has had dire consequences, allowing the virus to spread unchecked before social distancing rules went into effect.
The virus was freewheeling in our community and probably has been here for quite some time, Dr. Jeff Smith, a physician who is the chief executive of Santa Clara County government, told county leaders in a recent briefing.
How long? A study out of Stanford suggests a dramatic viral surge in February.
But Smith on Friday said data collected by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, local health departments and others suggest it was a lot longer than we first believed most likely since back in December.

This wasnt recognized because we were having a severe flu season, Smith said in an interview. Symptoms are very much like the flu. If you got a mild case of COVID, you didnt really notice. You didnt even go to the doctor. The doctor maybe didnt even do it because they presumed it was the flu.
Shouldn’t Dr. Fauxcy [and his team - he does have team does he not?] claims they now have some test materials for serum testing.
Shouldn’t he be out running some quick field studies to answer some of the questions that the media keep pestering Trump bout?

The homeless seem to be immune from this virus. Otherwise, we’d be hearing non-stop stories about their suffering.
Ya think? - Good to know they are on the ball when it comes to post mortem. Let’s follow this one through and see what we can do better next time.
My brother and sister-in-law who work at a theme park in LA sad one of their clients for one of your tours said she was from Wuhan. And my brother and sister-in-law also had flu-like symptoms for at least a week sometime around February. So this definitely Rings true with us.
It was here in December, no doubt in my mind it was here..I know a few people who want the antibody test they believe they for sure had the virus..are we supposed to believe non stop flights from Wuhan to San Francisco, non stop flights from Wuhan to LAX and NO ONE on board had the virus
Shelter in place = closing the barn door after the cows have left. Makes it really convenient for Stalin wannabes in this state though.
There are about 20 homeless here in LA County who supposedly have the virus, at least that is what we here everyday from the LA County of health during her press conferences everyday
Duh.
Leftists times trying to let China off the hook.
Califronia had reported cases in January. So did Chicago and Madison WI. But they were handled and most thought to be over without added infections. California cities have little mass transit for cities their sizes. So they may have had much slower spread than NYC. And they have better weather that would help with vitamin D as well as separation.
Also, it wasn’t recognized (or perhaps, more correctly, ignored) because all attention was focused from the fall through January on impeaching President Trump on the slimmest of charges.
A bunch of modelers are about to be humiliated.
So far we ave 20,000 dead in the USA, and we Destroyed 50,000,000 Lives!!!
January 26th, the day that Kobe Bryant died in the helicopter accident, that morning I saw a news story here in LA about how there were two reported cases of the virus, one in LA County and one in Orange County and that soon they would each have a press conference about where those two people might have gone in the city..but when news broke of Kobe’s death, the story was dropped we never heard anything about it again..so Id like to know, where did those people go, what stores, restaurants, etc
If Obama were prez or a Klinton, this would be considered a bad flu season. SARS II would be handled like SARS I by guv and medi-duh.
There are all sorts of possibilities ...
... that similar Corona viruses, coming to CA from China for years, may have established some ‘herd immunity’ ... or (and) that certain European genomes (think: Latins) are more susceptible - check the stats coming out of Italy/France/Spain - it will take decades to sort out all of the theories.
Certainly the colder weather in the NE, combined with how tightly-packed NYC is (and the prevailing use of mass-transit) reproduced an Italy/France/Spain-like outbreak... big cities suck for a 1001 reasons ...
But, despite similar populations, the EU has had about 70K deaths so far - the USA about 19K to date.
(Anyone still think EU-style socialized medicine is a good idea?)
Exactly. The US did handle early outbreaks well. The outbreaks ended in most places. That is, until the colleges sent back their students. Then it all changed. A week after the NCAA tournament was ended 90% of counties had at least one case. And we are talking about places like North Platte and places in North Dakota far from the cities. The kids were sent off to colleges and came home with the virus. So, was it on purpose or was it just the way it worked out. Did all these Chinese students in January go back to school and come back with the virus unknowingly? Or did they spit on the entrance keypads and and elevator buttons of college dorms. Did they cough in class rooms on purpose or it just worked out that way.
