In announcing the extension of Los Angeles County’s stay-at-home order Friday, officials issued a grim warning: Nearly 96% of the county’s population could be infected with coronavirus by summer if social distancing measures stop.
“Virtually all residents in the county” would be infected by August 1 if residents stopped distancing themselves from others and everything returned to business-as-usual, the county’s Department of Health Services director Christina Ghaly said at a news conference.
Projections by the county and the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center found that social distancing measures taken by state and local officials have clearly delayed and lowered the peak of infections in the nation’s most populous county.
By continuing current physical distancing measures, it is projected that L.A. County will be able to reduce the overall infection rate among communities down to almost 30% by August, according to Ghaly.
“That’s a huge decline,” she said.
And if the county is more successful with physical distancing, it will be able to reduce that rate to less than 10% by that same time, according to Ghaly.

Just 2 weeks ago, it was around 52%, according to Newsom, that would be infected by summer.
Well so far 0.08% of the county are known to have been infected.
Yeah, it’ll be 96% in no time.
Are they just pulling numbers out of the air now? Gavin Newsom said 25.5 million Californians will get this within 2 months - starting March 20th. He also said half of Californians will get it. Now it’s 96%?
I guess anyone can do this.
96% of these statistics are made up. I think my made-up number is more accurate than their made-up number.

I am feeling very frustrated after listening to the press conference by LA County officials...
How about the economy? How about mental health of people who are unemployed?
And when they still fined new cases in May, sorry, have to Extend to June 15, etc. Any sane business owner in these states needs to take what assets they have left and close up shop. Based on their statements they have made it clear they will keep things closed, for your safety of course most of the Summer if not into fall.
Does anyone ask them how many people being unemployed is too much for them?

In any case, I share your skepticism...
Wear a mask, wash your hands and get back to work.
If you get sick go to the hospital and get the HCQ medicine.
What other choice is there?
They are so hung up on tying to “stop” a virus by shutting down “non-essential” business and telling grocery stores how to run theirs, they are failing to account for two things:
1. The economic impact including the mental health consequences, which means nothing to them as they still get a nice fat check each week.
2. The fact that you can’t stop or eradicate a virus by simply hiding at home at least 2 MONTHS as of now. The second you relax these you will see new cases pop up, then what close down again for a few months?
Does anyone ask them how many people being unemployed is too much for them?

Do they do any cost benefit analysis? Do they just think about “benefit” of the shutdown?
This is not directed at you, LAJustice.
What is the goal here? We’re never going to get to 0% unless we never leave our houses again, and even then, someone will. I thought the whole point of sheltering in place was to not overwhelm our hospitals. Well, does sheltering just delay the peak, or have we peaked?
The moment we leave our houses, some people will get it. Others have already gotten it, and others will never get it.
I think our hospitals have learned more about the virus now that we can use HCQ+AZ+Zn, and we shouldn’t be overwhelming them now unless the governor bans the use of it. I know some stupid health official in San Diego recommended NOT using it because it wasn’t approved treatment.

Good point...
Those county officials have advanced degrees...I guess that is why some people just accept what they are saying...Not me...
