One of the writers of this article, Frank de Varona, who fled Cuba after communists stole his familys cattle ranch, joined what would be later called Assault Brigade 2506 on April 1, 1961. He and about 100 other CIA recruits joined the Brigade just weeks before the assault. The goal: Liberate his homeland. Upon arrival in Guatemala, he met his older brother, Jorge de Varona, and many of his cousins and classmates from Cuba.
The bulk of the soldiers, sailors, and pilots of Assault Brigade 2506 were trained for more than nine months in Panama, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, and even the United States. The trainers were mostly members of the U.S. Armed Forces and CIA personnel.
The American military instructors were astounded at the passion and fervor displayed by the brigadistas, as they came to be called, and by how quickly they learned military tactics.

JFK sold them down the river.
How did we invade Cuba if we already had a giant base there?
My Sister was attending Florida State at the time. She got a Summer job at Hurlburt Field as a clerk typist.
There were Cubans all over the base.
One of the worst betrayals in the anal holes of American history.
Hopefully JFK is now rotating on a rotisserie in hell for his cowardice.
For the record, I don’t think it was “globalists” that installed and kept Castro in power. That doesn’t square with their love of money and turning a burgeoning gambling and vacation paradise into a 3rd world shithole doesn’t make money.
JFK failed everyone because of his essential lack of character.
JKF probably had more character then any subsequent presidents including both the Bushleagues.....except of course, Trump and Reagan....
I was just a kid at the time Castro was coming to power. All the American news outlets were treating him like Robin Hood. I wanted to take my .22 rifle and join him.
There was an organization which appeared to be the only ones saying Castro was a Russian operative. I did not know anything about them but my Father said they (The John Birch Society) were right.
Eisenhower had to know the truth and it was he who betrayed Cuba to the Communists. Kennedy at least tried to get rid of Castro but turned out to be a Scardy cat.
I have read that Khrushchev literally had Kennedy shaking with fear.
Yeah and as I was reading the cast of characters I got a sense that thee worst betrayal is fast approaching
JFK was a SOB. America should have put Castro into Hell where he belonged. I view Bay of Pigs like Benghazi. Yes,not similar but quite the same.
I long for the day when people actually read something before they start illuminating us with their brilliant retorts.
No, the CIA sold them down the river. JFK told them very clearly that the US military was not going to participate. The Dulles crew smirked and decided they would force him to. They put their group on the beach knowing they had no chance, thinking they would force him to do it their way when they got bogged down.
He didn’t, so they blew his head off for it.
You might not have read far enough.
While the CIA was playing games wanting a full US assault on Cuba, the Korean war was only a few years behind. The Berlin airlift was in everyone’s memory and tensions were very high in Berlin. While the CIA goofballs were playing their games, JFK was also thing about avoiding another world war from breaking out.
The CIA knew it too, but they were in the Lemay wing that wanted to conduct a first strike nuclear war with Russia.
JFK probably prevented a couple of nuclear exchanges. Paid for it with his life.
Sounds like spy fiction, and yet?????

I am with you. JFK was a flawed man, but he was correct on many things.
