A lot of our brave men died to bring war supplies to Murmansk, which is here, during WWII.

Murmansk is just over 200 miles from Kirkenes, Finland.

An uncle made a trip to Murmansk on a freighter during the war, in support of Lend Lease. I understand that he did not make it back to the US on that trip.

Lost way too many good men during the war.

"A lot of our brave men died to bring war supplies to Murmansk, which is here, during WWII."

An amazing story of heroics. 50% of the aid ships going to Murmansk were sunk with 100% loss of the crews.
Still, with that knowledge, those crews volunteered to make that trip.

Soviet troops cried when they were given Spam because it was the first meat they'd eaten in two years. I've read that during the last two years of the war that Soviet troops 'marched' on Spam from the USA.
