The office of Vice President Mike Pence will no longer allow members of the White House coronavirus task force to appear on CNN unless the network broadcasts President Donald Trumps daily press briefings in their entirety.
Pences office, which is responsible for booking the officials on networks during the pandemic, said it will only allow experts such as Dr. Deborah Birx or Dr. Anthony Fauci to appear on CNN if the network televises the portion of the White House briefings that includes the vice president and other coronavirus task force members.
After Trump leaves the podium, CNN frequently cuts out of the White House briefing to discuss and fact-check what the President had said. A CNN executive said that the network usually returns to such programming because of the extensive length of the full briefing that includes Pence, which can run in excess of two hours.
Pences office has barred task force members from participating in interviews on CNN since last Thursday evening.
When you guys cover the briefings with the health officials then you can expect them back on your air, a spokesperson for the vice president told the network.
Top coronavirus task force members, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, have appeared frequently on CNN and other corporate media outlets since the pandemic began earlier this year. Fauci participated in five CNN town hall events, which featured hosts Anderson Cooper and Dr. Sanjay Gupta.

Pence was a talk show host that was inspired by Rush. He’s a very savvy operator. He’s been in the media fight since the Clinton era and probably before that that. It would not surprise me at all if he decided this on his own.
“OK then just ban everyone from the administration team from the other networks. Nobody on CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, NPR. No Face the Nation, no Meet the Press, no This Week, no Sixty Minutes. Just Fox and OANN. “
personally, i wouldn’t have a big problem with that proposal ...
Nor would I. And I think they should do it. Limit the boycott to CNN and they become a martyr. Expand it to every network that doesn't cover the briefing in its entirety and you send a message to the whole media.
“Limit the boycott to CNN and they become a martyr.”
not necessarily ... i’ve noticed that President Trump often tries the carrot and then uses the stick if the carrot doesn’t work ... on top of that, President Trump almost always singles out a specific person or company and makes an example of them as a warning to the rest, sort of like nailing a coyote hide to a fence post ... 3M is a perfect example of that tactic ... plus, President Trump has ALWAYS specifically singled out CNN as “fake news”, even though others are equally as bad (NBC), and some are even worse (MSNBC) ... it’ll be interesting to see how this works out ...

I DVR C-SPAN, they carry the full briefing every day.
I never watch the whole thing, but DVR allows me to pick and choose {and re-play some of the real good parts}.
great.
Mike Pence has risen in my estimation in recent days.
A clean kill shot, expertly delivered.
Well done, Vice President Pence.
Shame on the “news” networks that do not show the complete and unedited COVID-19 briefings. Good on VP Pence to restrict task force members from being exploited by CNN for political reasons. And its not just CNN - all my local TV broadcasts from their parent “news” networks have completely stopped any coverage...
But one of my local TV broadcast stations has heroically stepped into the gap and is independently broadcasting live unfiltered/unedited local government and the national WH briefings.
Here is my email message of thanks I sent a short while ago:
Subject: COVID-19 Briefings Thanks!
Thank you KTBS so very much for broadcasting unedited and complete real time local and national governmental press briefings during this COVID-19 national emergency. KTBS TV broadcasts are currently my best source of these briefings as I dont have easy access to other unedited news sources.
Please continue this great service of providing unfiltered/unedited news for your viewers in the ArkLaTex! I realize that your station is sacrificing ad revenue for these often lengthy briefings and also pre-empting regular programming. I appreciate that sacrifice, and I hope that most of your viewers agree.
