In 2003, France recorded 14,802 fatalities which were caused by a heat wave that occurred in August of that year.

At that time, the population of France was 61 million, which was about one-sixth the current population of the United States.

We were in Italy that year. Venice was horrible. I didn’t realize the numbers were THAT large. Someone called me cold for saying 60,000 deaths is not significant.
