Everywhere that tried the “meh, it’s just the flu” approach soon changed their minds when it hit.
The country was going to “lock down” one way or another: either the gov’t encouraged all to (generally not enforced per se, just ended mandated gatherings like schools and encouraged “shelter in place” and “social distancing”), or a huge number of citizens were going to say “f this, I’m staying away from everywhere” and shutdown happen anyway. Y’all act like you never considered the latter might/would happen.
Yes money is going to run out. I’m not happy about the $2T handout, don’t think it will make much difference. Either way it was going to. Large numbers of people dropping in the streets from contagious spontaneous auto-suffocation will have that sort of effect on a population. Anyone crunching the early (and continuing) numbers on this virus quickly concluded it is a massive threat, certainly not “just the flu”. Yes a depression is starting abruptly - by what sane notion do you think it wasn’t going to?
People who think low casualties from a suitably-mitigated lethal threat proves the mitigation was unnecessary are blithering idiots.

I think Trump got a lot done in the past 3 years, heck he got a lot done compared to how slow government works and an opposition like no other. Remember Paul Ryan was no different then Nancy, except Nancy is just more bat shiat crazier. But both shared the same policies of screw America and pro Globalism. Everything else is just window dressing for the rubes (voters).
