A New, Elite Class Of “Certified Recovered” Citizens; How to Turn the Country Back On

This was something we discussed when I recently asked if there was a plan for how were supposed to turn the country back on as the pandemic fades away. It will almost certainly have to be done in stages rather than just opening the floodgates all at once. But who goes back to work and is allowed to begin socializing again first? One suggestion that seemed to make sense was to cut loose the people who had survived the infection and presumably now have antibodies to protect them from the illness.
This would be a complicated process to be sure, particularly in terms of how to identify these people while respecting medical privacy issues. We would also need a way for them to identify themselves. Aaron Edlin at Stat News proposes a way that such a system could be set up. But even if we manage to do such a thing safely, we will essentially be creating a new privileged class of citizens who will regain all of their basic freedoms in advance of everyone else.
Re-opening a nightclub in New York seems crazy at this point, as thats just the kind of setting in which Covid-19 can spread like wildfire. But it wouldnt be crazy if all of the workers and patrons had previously had Covid-19 and recovered from it.
Someday soon there will be millions of people in the U.S. who have recovered from Covid-19. The best evidence suggests that they cant get infected again soon and wont infect others by shedding the virus.
That suggests a path to run essential services more safely and to reopen sectors of the economy faster than would otherwise be possible. New York, Washington, California, and other states with high caseloads should rush to set up credible, verifiable, and voluntary programs to identify individuals as certified recovered from Covid-19. Researchers in Germany have recently proposed a similar program there.
While challenging, such a system could probably be put in place fairly quickly. Doctors in each state could be given specific criteria for patients to meet, confirming that they did indeed have COVID-19 but have now fully recovered and are presumed to be immune and not contagious. The state could further authorize healthcare providers to identify such patients (if they volunteer to be identified) so some sort of identification card could be sent to them. Alternately, the healthcare providers could print and issue the identification themselves, which would probably be quicker and more economical.
But are we really at the point where we could just start doing that without answering more questions? Of major concern are the multiple reports out of places like South Korea where recovered patients have allegedly come down with the disease a second time. Thats not supposed to be possible as I understand it, but there are also questions as to whether or not some of the patients received a false positive or false negative result the first time they were tested.
Instituting such a system would also immediately create a black market for fake certified recovered ID cards. I realize thats a somewhat awful thing to say, but human nature is what it is. There will always be some cretins willing to try to game the system for profit.
Finally, I cant escape the nagging thought I mentioned at the top of this article. Even if such an ID system worked flawlessly, wouldnt we be creating a generation of certified recovered individuals who are free to go about their daily lives as they wish while everyone else remains in lockdown, unable to earn a living or interact with their friends and families? Perhaps thats just the price we have to pay to get through a national emergency, but it still smacks of something out of a dystopian science fiction novel.

Testing for antibodies should be number 1 priority.

You can get re-infected with a different strain of this thing, just like the common cold or the flu.
There have been reports of people who were infected, getting re-infected.
To: SeekAndFind
In addition to the certified recovered people could you not also release those who have not and do not have the virus?
Just keep the current infections and the vulnerable health risk populations locked down a little longer, and have tracking available to lock down any outbreaks that do occur.
I can actually see this happening in two months.

Reported by the same people that inflamed the country over this Chivirus.

A pipedream and a civil liberties nightmare.
Testing 350 million people will not happen for a longer list of reasons than can possibly fit here.
They’ll test enough to get some good statistical data for their precious models.

So much fake news mixed in with real news it is hard to figure out what is real anymore. And our press doesn’t ask these questions, just gotcha junk TDS induced crap they call questions at press conferences, such a dis-service to this country.

In just the past day or so a report from the University of Fudan sampled 175 recovered patients. About one-third had no or low antibody levels in their blood.
This is probably the most ominous information we have seen about this virus. If antibodies only last long enough for a patient to recover, then no vaccine will ever work. Recovered patients returned to the general population will not serve as a virus absorber, and cannot be the mechanism for restarting the economy. As just said this is the most ominous information we have seen about the virus.
The study has not been peer-reviewed. Maybe flaws will be found. 175 is not a trivial sample.

Since the whole purpose of “flattening the curve” was to prevent treatment facilities from being overwhel, and they are not, how about just letting the young go back to work and school, period?
Meanwhile, put all 1st responders and med personnel on HCQ, and then give it to the older folks. As a preventative.
Fears of side effects have been extremely overblown. Dr. Wallace, leading Rhumatologist in the US, says zero hospitalizations from HCQ over 40 years(!) of prescribing it! Zero. Says they NEVER do EKG before prescribing for Lupus. Millions of doses.

Wow. To execute this will be very dystopian indeed.
* Hacker-proof 128 bit Bill Gates National Digital ID on your phone
* Scanners and readers all over the country. Think of the ones used by airlines and TSA to check your digital boarding pass. Itll probably be a contactless Near Field RF reader.
* HUGE linebacker sized security guards everywhere to keep the unclean out.
* Will your phone constantly broadcast UNCLEAN in a 100 ft radius around you? Will you have to wear the bright yellow UNCLEAN star on your clothes? Or will you have to hire your own person to walk 100 feet in front of you constantly shouting UNCLEAN?
But, arent these small prices to pay to get us going again? (Yes, /s)

RE: how about just letting the young go back to work and school, period?
What if they are carriers but just asymptomatic and they come in touch with someone ( even young ) who have pre-existing conditions?

So do we keep the most vulnerable isolated and locked down for 12 to 24 more months?
Im 68 now with controlled hypertension. Im active. But I am prone to getting bronchitis especially after colds. The thought of catching this is most unpleasant.

It could be easier than that, we could just make the undesirables wear a sign on their clothing, maybe like a star of David or something.

Well for the vulnerable, and I know a lot of them too, the medicos are going to have to keep working on treatments, and eventually vaccines.
But even those may come faster than the timelines we’ve been given. I hope so. But if we know where the outbreaks are occurring, and sick people are at home and vulnerable people are at home, those are easier problems for society to deal with than “everyone’s at home.” In short, you will get a lot of money.

“So much fake news mixed in with real news it is hard to figure out what is real anymore.” This should be rubbed in the faces of the fake media at every chance available. they (The Media) are the ones just throwing unsubstantiated crap out there.

You can do that forever, to justify lockdown.
What % dead from this virus is acceptable? Either it’s zero, which is nuts and impossible, or it’s a number. “As few as possible” is the worst figure anyone can give. How do you know when you’re there? You can’t manage what you can’t measure, and you can’t measure against a target you don’t define!
Perpetual lockdown, ala Fauci and Gates, is doing the “as few as possible” thing. They’ll never know when we are there, so it’s perpetual draconian measures. Forever.
At what price? A Great Depression?!? That the trajectory.
