Peter Navarro Gives CNN's Berman a Hydroxychloroquine Homework Assignment

CNN, along with MSNBC, remains one of the media bastions still remaining hostile toward the use of hydroxychloroquine. One big reason for this hostility is that President Donald Trump has been publicizing its use in the treatment of coronavirus. Therefore if the Orange Man thinks it is good, then CNN (and MSNBC) automatically think it is bad.

An example of this attitude came on Monday when New Day anchor John Berman got into an argument with the Director of the White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, Peter Navarro. Berman's ire was raised by Navarro's defense of the hydroxychloroquine treatment.

I love how Berman cites a doctor telling him he doesn't know if the Trump Pills work and then it turns out that same doctor only started prescribing them the night before he talked to Berman.

Very few people I know listen to CNN anymore. If a tree falls in the forest, and no one hears it, did it make a sound?

Berman won’t follow up on it. It’s a perfect example of a “drive by” media.

Just too many journalists pretending they understand the profession. They need to go and get their real estate license, and take up a new line of work.

That was amazing! A doctor prescribes the hydroxy... and the patient recovers within hours... and “we don’t know that it works.” Another doctor prescribes the hydroxy... and the patient recovers within hours... and “we don’t know that it works.” The drug produces no horrendous side effects except maybe a rash over the past 65 years... We have all of these anecdotal cases of recovery within hours. By all means if you are a democrat do not take the “Trump pills” just ride it out on your own hatred of Trump and “take a chance” on healing with other meds besides the Trump pills. As for me and my house... we will take the plaquenil/zinc treatment!!

Trump and Fauci are not contradicting one another.

Trump answers the question in general terms. He looks at the anecdotal evidence, and gives his best estimate of the effectiveness of this treatment.

Fauci answers the question as a doctor, and will couch his answer it terms of what he can prove, and on whether or not there are conclusive studies to back up a claim of effectiveness.

These are two different answers to two different questions. Both are true, and both are appropriate for the person making the statement.

President Trump is not a doctor. He is, however, the President. So he is going to make the best call he can given the information he has in the best interest of the country. This is a very different matter than asking a doctor if drug has peer reviewed studies and has been proven to be safe and effective.

It does not make sense to wait for those studies, because based on the information we currently have, thousands - perhaps hundreds of thousands - of Americans could be saved. It would be a tragic waste of life to just let these people die while people are dotting i’s and crossing t’s down at the FDA.

A couple of weeks ago President Trump gave hydroxychloroquine the push it needed to get a lot more people looking at it, and to get supplies ramped up. Both have happened. I count that as a successful move, especially as reports mount that more and more doctors are seeing some positive results from its use.

It might or might not have been a gut call at the time, but it’s looking more and more like a good call.
