Zinc itself might help since it competes with iron with uptake into the body. Zinc is used in the galvanizing of ferric metals to keep THEM FROM OXIDIZING..... An environment temporarily saturated with a bit of zinc(in addition to being not very viral friendly with Hydroxy onboard, might blunt the over trapping of o2 molecules by these damaged heme packets in the lungs and blood stream.
