More than half of U.S. states have instituted lockdown measures in response to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. These policies are justified as an effort to flatten the curve, a phrase coined by Dr. Howard Markel, a pediatrician, and professor of medical history at the University of Michigan.
The hypothetical COVID curve we are trying to flatten the time rate at which the number of people needing intensive medical treatment will grow to exceed our capacity to care for them is based on assumptions about when COVID was brought to the US, the speed of its transmission, and the ability of our healthcare system to accommodate the most severely affected patients. By isolating citizens in their homes, lockdown policies intend to slow the rate of infection, thereby flattening the curve, which will allow us to ration healthcare resources over time.

Nice to see the lockdowns and other steps are finally WORKING!
A doctor friend of mine said that the lock-down and virus ordeal should be over by the end of May-beginning of June.
May
No it won’t. Trump said he built a great economy and that he will do it a second time.
Better too.
Some people will be back to work the Monday after next. Slowly over a few weeks the country will begin opening up, and the I Told You So's will fly.
On balance though, and assuming Trump starts putting the accelerator to the floor and leading the re-opening and success at getting out the antibody testing, he will be judged well for the approach by the few in the US capable of rational thought.
It's easy to say NOW that we knew 8 weeks ago it would turn out like this.
Certainly different.
BREAKING NEWS: Trump sidelines watchdog tapped for virus rescue oversight. Details to come.

I don’t know yet.
New cases in the US are (just) starting to level off a tiny bit.
But we still had 30,000 new cases, just yesterday.
And 30,000 new cases, the day before.
I would not place too much comfort in the hospitalization trends... In my area, hospitals won’t admit you unless you have serious trouble breathing. Too many of the people sent home end up dead.
If they try to push this into May, we will look like a Mad Max movie come June.
I don’t even trust the numbers
Praying for sooner.
Texas’ peak is supposedly at end of April/beginning of May.
(And, I know there is a back-side to curve.)
This is because we hit the peak last Saturday ! Trump's initial instincts were right, worst is over before Easter !!!
NY and NJ had the worst day for deaths today. no time to celebrate.
“A doctor friend of mine said that the lock-down and virus ordeal should be over by the end of May-beginning of June.”
I could believe it. But one thing that I haven’t yet seen is any plan for ending the lockdown.
For example, we know who essential workers are (like garbage collectors) and they keep working through this.
But is there any plan to identify and limit people who are simply NOT NEEDED for our society to operate? Example, if Disneyland and movie theaters stayed closed for a year, would that hurt the country? On the other hand non-union auto workers will eventually be needed to replace older cars with reliable new ones...so they’re kind of a middle ground. [and no, I’m not talking about people out of a job, that is a separate issue]
It seems to me that if we simply go back to ‘business as usual’, we’ll see an outbreak that will make today’s levels look like a joke.
I don’t have anything around that could compare to his Interceptor.
Besides nowhere to run with that blower except a track.
Still, one drive would be great.
May. Lovely. Thanks, China!
