It was necessary for the secretary to explain to the crew why the captain had been a fool. How else are they to learn that there are serious consequences for breaking operational security and attempting to pressure the chain of command?

This captain committed a huge blunder. If you've kept up with this story, the captain was wrong in half a dozen ways.
