Officials from Philadelphia and the four counties that surround it are asking Gov. Tom Wolf to reorganize the commonwealths supply of ventilators and empty intensive care beds to help them deal with mounting coronavirus cases.
On Monday afternoon, they sent a letter urging the governor to implement load balancing a technique they say already is being used in New York and Michigan.
It would involve transferring patients from overburdened hospitals to ones with more space, and likewise transferring ventilators and other necessary equipment from flush facilities to struggling ones.

Sure, ship patients to distant hospitals so their families can enjoy the burden of travel.
I am sure they will be happy if you just send a check and some ventilators.
Why would these families be traveling to visit someone with an infectious disease?
Buy them one-way tickets to New Jersey?
Hush. You cant visit someone with the virus
I’m already seeing liberals argue this is proof of the need to federalize healthcare equipment providers as well as medical facilities.
Yeah, I guess I would let my mom be shipped off a few counties over and just chill; bye Mom, enjoy the food!
Because in my family, we actually care for each other.
And get this, before this panic bs, people actually were in hospital for reason other than the Chinese virus.
Wolf is an idiot. He shutdown the travel plazas and rest areas and then expected truckers to trek across PA with no place to eat or relieve themselves.
My understanding is that he has since opened a few rest areas and staffed them with portapotties. Not sure why he couldn’t do that for all of them.
Just another example of an idiot who can’t think outside the box.
Like slipping the maître d’ a fifty for a nice table.
“Redistribute” is a Socialist tactic. “Share the burden” is such lovely prose.
So you care for each other by spreading disease around?
By the way I can’t think of any hospitals that allow visits to infectious disease cases.
As of today at 1300, 66% of the cases and 67% of the deaths in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania are from the Philadelphia area (Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, and Philadelphia Counties)
Make of that what you will.
Many cases of diabetes this virus is hell on wheels with diabetes and pre diabetes!!!
Ridiculous. This entire thing is hysteria, you do you.
Keep those people in their own damned city. Don’t bring more disease to lightly hit areas. As far as taking ventilators from other areas, bullshit. We may need our ventilators in our area and Wolf wants to send them to scum sucking Philly where they all vote Dem and f##k up the rest of our state.
We care for each other in our family too. But, we have not been able to visit my Mother-in-Law for over a month now. She is in an assisted living “community” and all non-nursing/daily care visitors are excluded. No exceptions, even tho’ she is now on hospice. I guess they might allow someone to go in and hold her hand in the last few hours, but maybe not!
And yes, Wolf is an idiot, drunk on power! Start opening things up please - especially in areas that are lightly affected. We’re in Bucks County, so I don’t expect anything here for a while, but it really, really sucks for those who have few cases!!
Oh - and closing the State stores was even more idiotic! Instead of a few random shoppers filtering into a small store, everyone is forced to either crowd into the overloaded grocery stores to buy their wine/beer, or they can go across borders and get some booze (which is now becoming risky, in Delaware at least).
