The number of people hospitalized across the United States as a result of the novel coronavirus illness (COVID-19) is reportedly only a fraction of what some health experts projected a few days ago.

Wrong.
867V309 Had a perfectly started response. The other person is ignorant of the disaterous effect this s having on millions of businesses. No business can shut down without revenue and survive. The costs will bankrupt it in short order. 867V309 Was calling out the incredible ignorance, and rightfully so.
Lots of summer houses on Lake Winnipesaukee are open, and have cars with NY/NJ/CT plates parked out front.
Your post makes no sense.
This corona virus modeling has similarities to the Hillary Presidential election polls and projections!
You'll get no argument from me.
Reading the other poster's comment again, I don't agree with his comment about "doing odd jobs like cleaning toilets and mowing yards" - I think that is demeaning.
I do believe, however, that there has been waaaay too much in-fighting and bicker on FR because of this crisis (and it is a crisis).
My advice to Freepers weeks ago was:
1. State lockdowns are coming
2. The prudent thing to do is stock up on needed supplies and food
For that, I was accused to spreading "hysteria" and even encouraging "gluttony" (no, I'm not joking).
Many of us have suffered losses because of this. I wish people would put the knives down.
That depends on the context. I can't speak for everyone here, and neither can any of us.
What I did witness was a lot of folks who thought shouting down every thread on COVID was going to "stem the panic" so that the stock market wouldn't crash, states would not issue lock downs, the President would not declare a National Emergency, grocery stores would not run out of certain foods and supplies, and people would not lose jobs.
All of that was going to happen regardless of what was said here.
Personally, I just advised people to stock up on needed medicine, food, and supplies, and to get ready for lock downs.
Those statements caused some Freepers to go into spring-loaded attack mode.
Strange times we live in.
so far it is t even H-N1
H1N1
The hospitals are all running low inpatient numbers because all elective surgeries are cancelled, and people are generally afraid to go to a hospital that they may become exposed and or infected.
The reason for the shut down, is not to stop the virus.
People will get this virus. Exposure will happen.
The shut down is to ease the number of people becoming sick all at the same time. A slow and gradual spread can be dealt with in most hospitals.
A 1,200 bed hospital can Not deal with a sudden rush of 2,000 people needing inpatient help.
Its really not a matter of taking your chances because its expected that we’ll all get infected sooner or later. Of course later is preferred as more drugs are being used and various other therapies are being tried.
No one wants this.
Small businesses are the backbone to this country. They are indeed being harmed the most.
I think it depends on what any given small business does or is.
I mean, if we were just letting this virus run its course and people were dying in mass because the hospitals were truly full and maxed out.........I doubt a small business thats a bakery would be doing well anyway.
This virus was going to break some things no matter what. The government is trying to make it be a controlled break.
stocking up before the crisis was prepping
Just wow.
So my saying that weeks ago was "before" or "after" the crisis? Which date exactly was the official kick off?
And advising people to have supplies of needed food and medicine for themselves and their family's use is not "hoarding."
And how exactly would you split the hair and define a "hoarder" vs. someone buying a large package of toilet paper and some rubbing alcohol?
See, this is why you have demonstrated a credibility problem on this thread.

Good point.
IF those numbers are accurate...?
There is one down the street from me that seems to be doing a brisk business. It is just the owner and a couple of employees. They are serving customers from the front door. Customers order online and pickup the order at a certain time.
You even came up with school yard names to call people on this thread, right off the bat.
Have fun in your own stew.
Thats great!
I was mostly referring to if we just let this virus run, in the beginning.
I mean, donuts, sure, wedding and birthday cakes between funerals, I doubt it.
