Possibly. Read somewhere (can’t remember where) that having too much glycated hemoglobin makes the virus easier to catch and more virulent. Poorly controlled diabetes causes lots of glycated hemoglobin.

An interesting study would be to compare outcomes in poorly- controlled diabetics vs. well-controlled diabetics. I imagine most of the dead diabetics had poor control.
