When my father was in the cattle business in the 50's, it was usually a big black guy with a sledgehammer.

Ask an Indian H-1b overstayed his Visa what their vision of America means.

Ask a Somali in Minneapolis what their vision of America means.

Ask a millennial what their vision of America means.

Ask a Boomer what their vision of America means.

Ask a democrat what their vision of America means.

Ask a republican what their vision of America means.

Ask a person living in a rural area what their vision of America means.

Ask a city/suburb dweller what their vision of America means.

Ask a pre-boomer what their vision of America means.

The answers will all be different reflecting the values of each group. The cultural homogeneity is gone. There is no more common denominator. America as we knew it is gone forever.

A better policy would be to just do pickup or curbside delivery, which are options at most Walmarts (and the ones I’m using where available), but there are too many idiots that won’t do that.

That's fine for some things, but what if you're not sure which particular model of something you want? Or color scheme? Or size?

Why would you ever trust some random dude to pick out your fruits and veggies and meats?

True, but I mean any store in general. I don't like having someone else select my selection for me, it's bad enough with Amazon or other online sales that I have no opportunity to examine a product prior to purchase.

And something I eat, that has varying levels of quality on display, is not something I want someone else picking out. Especially when their job is to make stuff look attractive for in-store buyers, so I would fully expect to get the meh stuff. Not bad, of course, but not the best selection in the store. As a curbside pickup, I have no idea if they picked out the best looking, biggest one like I would, or the ok piece that'll go bad soon cause no one in-store would choose it.

What if you get a box/can that's dented? Was that the only choice, which I would have been perfectly ok with freely picking it out in-store, or did the associate grab the worst-looking ones to clean them off the shelf?

More to the point, why are you buying fruits, veggies and deli-sliced/packed meat in a pandemic at all, when they are almost impossible to decontaminate and you have no idea who was handling them/fondling them/sneezing on them right before you got there? Prepackaged stuff isn’t as nice to eat, but is far easier to decontaminate.

As for the dented box/can - well, in normal times the delivery/pickup services like Instacart (which several chains farm out delivery and pickup to) have policies not to pick dented or damaged packages unless there is literally no other on offer and then to contact the customer to check.

If that's the stuff you're worried about, you shouldn't be buying fresh fruit/veggies/etc ever. Panic-pandemic or not. Or have you missed the non-stop romaine lettuces getting peed on by illegals working the fields? Or the various other EColi veggie issues?

Sure, canned/boxed/frozen stuff isn't as open to the elements, but they have their fair share of contamination issues as well. And canned goods often aren't something you can just wash off.

Sure, but are their employees actually the ones pulling everything off the shelf and paying? I know my local TomThumb just has regular employees putting together the pick-up/togo type of order. No clue on delivery, if they offer it, or if they have other companies doing it. I have zero experience with any of those delivery companies.

Regarding the delivery, it depends on the store and the contract. Aldi, for example, uses Instacart personnel for pickup and delivery.
