Well I pretty much prepared ahead earlier so I wouldn't have to deal with the fall out conditions of human nature in the ebb and flow of this health crisis.

With the closing of businesses it was only a matter of time before other measures would have to be put in place further limitations and directives within those businesses left open for human nature is seldom cooperative or patient for very long, especially if it disrupts their world.....

..To be expected there are always those who have no patience nor understanding of why things are done as they are, as well those who complain every step of the way... But then there are those who ‘adjust and adapt’ to whatever is thrust upon them, regardless if they like it or not, to protect and care for their families until it all passes.

Additionally everyone has an opinion on how things should be “measured” actions which need to be taken to find the balance.....but this virus and all that surrounds it is new to everyone as well so finding that balance is all the more difficult for the professionals, the people and everyone involved.

When you add in Politics and media ....they will always create confusion and chaos every time.

Realistically gas stations cannot stay opened if there’s nobody shopping them. But I think there’ll always be those who will remain open just to keep the essential workers and such filled up.

It’s good they have designated days for “special groups” so that working folk can still get in early (=less viral load) on occasion. That’s a decent crowd for that hour either way but probably those that couldn’t make it during the week.

I’m with you, trying to get Americans to do anything is tantamount to herding cats.

Heck, our saving grace is that so many lefties are too lazy to vote. That’s why the Democrats want mail-in elections.

I didn’t say I expect them all to shut down but if there are only a few left open there will be lines. I warned them to avoid the lines.

I wish the best for your sister and all those who have bodily restrictions that make no sense to anyone else. It took three years of therapy before I could finally accept the changes it made in who I was as a person.

My life consists of checks and balances, and I have to choose my “battles” carefully. I truly hope your sister is able to have as good a quality of life as is possible. She can contact me through FReepmail at any time, if she has questions. I may not have all the answers, but perhaps I can help her adjust somewhat.

“Dire” was not my word - I was responding to someone else that used it.

And FWIW, the virus IS spreading like wildfire - here. And we ARE in deep trouble. This is not necessarily new news.

Walmart had a policy which I don’t know if is still in effect:

They would open at 6am for seniors only. This would give
them an hour inside the store before opening to the public.

Note I said killing germs on someone’s hands “coming into the store,” not beyond that point but other measures and personal conscientiousness and responsibility might help mitigate beyond that point. Meanwhile the mask might deter face touching.

Yes I have frozen whole milk. I pour 2 cups into a food saver bag that I have sitting in a Tupperware container. Pop into freezer for 24 hours then seal bags with Food Saver machine. Milk is stable frozen for 4 months. Once thawed it is good for 4 days. Works great for me. You can freeze a whole gallon after you remove about a cup of milk to allow for expansion. Just remember it is only good for 4 days once thawed.

Yup. Heck we never see a sheriff’s car out our way except once in a while one goes by on the way to the high school down the road a piece.

Sorry about saying you used the word dire.

Why are we in deep trouble? Many states are effectively shutdown, limiting the spread. Face covers are now recommended (for people that felt so included to wait for CDC recommendations). The curve will be bent.

Isn’t this what you wanted done to help bend the COVID-19 curve? What else should be done?

Well there’s the hoarders doing their thing, and they will always do so if possible. They are a breed of their own and a far cry from preppers.

I saw a woman panicked, grocery cart full to overflowing. She was clearly frantic. For all we know someone in her family could have been just quarantined and she had not prepared for such.

I can understand people buying garbage bags.....or anything else to secure their homefront as every week the situation takes on further need to prepare. And if they can’t get it in their community they will be going out of town to yours to obtain what they want.

Where I sit currently I could manage two months without going out for groceries, three in a pinch.

I have my own pictures (very few) of the run at my local Wal-Mart. Taken over a few days. Only to say, this thing, hyped that it may be, has definitely resulted in the Venezuela-style grocery runs. Things are more calm now. Haven’t checked the bread aisle lately but I found some more white at a local grocery store. Right out front, too, and on sale.

A single loaf of round-top white was 79 cents - 20 cents off of their regular price. My closest WM (and the next one) usually go 84 cents for round-top, which is still a decent price. The stores have always had, it seems, their in-store baked bread for a $1. But it’s only good for a few days.

However, I slice it from the side, leaving a top and a bottom. I use the broiler to toast it. 1 minute to about just over 1 minute per side. Rack about 3-4 rungs down (broiler on high). The toasted bread lasts several days longer this way (made a huge pot of spaghetti - double box - last week).

Some of the WM’s already have the bread sliced or will slice your loaf (of their bread) free, upon request.

Are they allowing people into the craft section?

Could be. I believe my closest store is going to have something extra.

Talked to their AP people last night. They are going to have “help” - my guess is local police. I’ll be out and about today so I’ll probably find out.

.....”the virus IS spreading like wildfire - here. And we ARE in deep trouble”.......

We just started three weeks ago with our first reported case, up to 75 people now and 2 deaths. Our population is 13,500. we’ll see how this next week goes but I expect it to climb.

The people here are certainy taking care of the hosptial and medical staffs. They have posted several restraunts, still open for take outs, who have teamed up with citizens signing up on line who are sending lunch and dinners as well as snacks. Each day is listed and meal scheduals so you just pick when you want to send. It fills up fast...so there’s lots of people buying their meals.
