"Killing 2 million people is bad. Killing our free society is worse." But we're NOT "killing our free society".
This is TEMPORARY, and, as global events go, of short duration. Is there "economic disruption"...absolutely.....but you would have "economic disruption" if 2 million Americans die. Quite possibly as bad or even worse.

First of all, 2 million dead is extremely unlikely even letting this run wild with no social distancing, no limits on nursing home visits, etc - probably 250-500k would die, tops.
Second, even if it did kill 2 million, it actually wouldn't impact the economy that much given we already have 3 million a year die, and most of those dying are close to the end of their life anyway. That's 0.6% of the population and in terms of years of life expectancy of the existing population, probably 0.06% or lower.
Third, as soon as we stop doing these shutdowns, the SAME curve resumes. Either way we need herd immunity or a vaccine and the latter usually takes years to develop, test, produce and distribute. And we don't have years for economic collapse. We may already be there.

“But we’re NOT “killing our free society”.”
So, go open all those shuttered businesses.

Stupidly childish statement. Histrionics by the feeble minded and gullible.
