Coronavirus patients hospitalized across Michigan are receiving treatments of a newly-authorized, but yet untested, drug touted by at least one health care system for showing signs of managing COVID-19 symptoms.
Dr. Marcus Zervos, division head of infectious diseases at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, said a majority of COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Henry Ford Health Systems facilities were prescribed hydroxychloroquine during the last three weeks. Zervos said the drug, an arthritis medicine also used to treat malaria, isnt seen as a miracle cure" but has shown some success in managing a virus that currently has no remedy.
I dont want to get the idea that hydroxychloroquine is, is the only treatment or is going to be, you know, some sort of miracle cure, Zervos said. It really still has to be looked at in a formal clinical trial, we still need more data. As it is now, we feel that this is an important alternative ... this is an important option but there may be other options that are better to address the issue."
Zervos said only the sickest patients are receiving the treatment. He estimated 15% of COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized for serious infections that can cause various complications, including heart and lung issues. A hospital spokesperson said 800 patients have been treated with hydroxychloroquine this month.
Nearly all patients in the intensive care unit and those hospitalized for pneumonia are receiving treatments of hydroxychloroquine, Zervos said, unless when there is a risk of the drug interacting with other prescriptions.
Beaumont Hospitals in metro Detroit and Spectrum Health in West Michigan have also been using hydroxychloroquine to treat some cases of COVID-19.

Take that, Gretchen.
In the meantime, we have this from Detroit News:
Michigan requests hydroxychloroquine from national stockpile to treat COVID-19
That was quick. It was only a few days ago that Michigan’s Governor, Gretchen Whitmer announced a crackdown on prescriptions of hydroxychloroquine

How many died waiting for her to rescind her edict?
No mention of adding Z-pacs, and nobody seems to be adding zinc. Still encouraging. Both the Mich and Nev govs backed down, seems more and more places are using it.
“a majority of COVID-19 patients hospitalized at Henry Ford Health Systems facilities were prescribed hydroxychloroquine during the last three weeks.”
So were they doing that in violation of the Governor’s order not to?
Were some patients denied that drug due to the Governor’s order, who died as a result?
Those two governors should be a lock for replacement.
Even I could make a soundbyte and commercial with this information to get them relegated to the politician's boneyard.
Hope those tools in MI and NV wake up.

You have to understand - privately obtained medicine BAD! State provided medicine GOOD!
The left is just following the famous Italian statement from the 1920s: "Everything within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state"
Great interview with the French doc who was the first Westerner to use the HCQ/Z-Pack cocktail. Good reading, this guy does not suffer fools and bureaucrats.
I am not an MD, but from what I read the kicker ingredient or so it seems the Zinc. Dr Shiva from MA the guy who ran in the Primary for Senator explained it in one of his last Twitter Podcast. The Hyro-C for lack of a better term opens the door way for the Zinc to give this thing the one two punch.
I am sick of the hysteria around the trials etc. I'd love to know the History of using Super-Glue on patching up vital organs of our GI's in Nam and how it saved lives. Was that like this cocktail, something that was the mother of invention via necessity?
So Dr’s all over the planet are using it, albeit as a last resort, and claiming it helped. I can’t seem to find any news reports saying that POTUS was “ahead of the curve in bringing a yet to be approved treatment to the world’s attention.”
Pigs will fly first...
ANECDOTAL so dismiss this outright

They’ve only been using it on their ICU cases. The people that already have one foot in the grave.
They should be using it in all cases that require any hospitalization. IMO
