Might teach some people how to cook and grow a garden too.
There's no doubt that cooking skills and basic gardening can be beneficial, but your suggestion is of the "abnormal" mindset.
We are an advanced society both technologically and economically. We should have choices, and that includes NOT having to grow or hunt for our food, nor having to cook it.
Applying that mindset after 9/11, one might've suggested that, "Taking a bus cross-country makes one appreciate the scenery..."
