A Moorestown man is on a ventilator in Cooper ICU. His family is searching for a potential plasma donor.
MOORESTOWN, NJ — A Moorestown family is seeking help for a man who is currently hospitalized on a ventilator in the Cooper Hospital ICU with new coronavirus.
John Pratsinakis is fighting for his life against the virus, his daughter said on Monday. She is asking if anyone who has already fully recovered from their battle with the virus might be a potential blood donor.
“We don’t know where this journey will lead us, but we must be prepared,” said Katerina Pratsinakis, who is asking anyone who can make a plasma donation to get in touch with her family.

As far as I know, plasma can be given without a blood type match.

Ridiculous that they don’t mention the blood type or contact info. Are they counting on a type O- recovered WuFlu survivor reading this and giving them a call? Or any AB+ donors reaching out on the extreme longshot that they match?

Actually they are extracting just the part of the blood containing the antibodies. No need to crossmatch, the antigens that cause transfusion reactions are pretty firmly attached to the red cells.

As I understand it, those drugs help before you get to the stage this man is at. Once you are on a ventilator, you are in pretty bad shape.
Type O is a universal donor. If someone is not type O then they must be the patient’s same blood type.
I was wrong about type O.
It is only the universal donor when the donation is whole blood. That is not true for blood plasma.
I thought everyone who gets it dies. There is no hope! /sarc .

my understanding is these drugs help you no matter what state your in.. That man was on a ventilator! They already had called in his whole family to say goodbye they had to suit up and everything..
I heard they found a doner. Thanks. They certainly made it hard enough to find out how to contact them.
