No doubt he is hearing about people dying, probably not “all around him”. The entire state had 240 CV deaths yesterday. But New York City has an average of 420 deaths each day, so that is only about a 50% higher number than what the city sees every day, in the entire state.
So if he is seeing people “dying all around him”, he has been seeing it every year already.

I live in the 2nd largest State in the country and we are not even on the list because we only have 34 deaths yet THE ENTIRE STATE IS BASICALLY SHUT DOWN!! Lies and hysteria.
