148 people per day die in NYC average, of all causes.

About 90 died of covid related yesterday?

Can’t see how that would overwhelm a system of transporting the bodies. A thousand, yes.

It may...most hospitals have limited morgue space, so even a slight increase may require moving fatalities to other locations...and if funeral homes are on “lock down” and not processing fatalities, or if the death is suspicious or from criminal act, forensic investigations may be slowed by COVID 19 restrictions, so it can cause a backup. However, that does not mean the fatalities are COVID 19...

A near-doubling, with even more-stringent handling requirements? That could very well with the equivalent of just-in-time services.
