Sacramento health chief ‘cautiously optimistic’ county may escape worst virus consequences

Sacramento County’s health chief said this week he is cautiously optimistic county residents and local hospitals are taking steps that will reduce illnesses and deaths in the coming critical weeks of the fight against the highly contagious coronavirus.

Speaking to The Sacramento Bee, Dr. Peter Beilenson said he believes residents have been doing enough “physical distancing” in the last two weeks to cut into the expected upcoming spike locally in cases.

But, he said, the virus remains a major health issue, and it would be a huge mistake to underestimate its ability to spread widely through the community. The county is not past the worst of it yet — local health officials say they expect the crunch moment to come in a few weeks.

So far, 164 county residents have been infected by the virus and six have died in the five weeks since the virus first showed up in Sacramento.

The bigger question is what are they going to do about the looting next weekend. I give it that much at the very most.

Everything’s been smooth so far, but I don’t expect that to last very much longer in Sacramento. We’re already catching the looters up here and the lucky ones are getting a trip in the back of a sheriff’s car.

I have never before been looking forward to hot weather as now. I live in nextdoor Placer County. I think we are at 44 confirmed as of today. Sacramento County I think has a relatively low 164 cases. Not having public transportation like subways may be the difference. It could also be that we have had a few days near 80f the last few weeks with lots of sun. I hope that is it. I see parts of Southern California and Arizona will be in the 80s next week. Palm Springs will hit 91f. A dry heat but hopefully a slow down on spread.

Where’s “up here”? Where are there looters? What are they looting? Stores?

I spotted an armed guard with a bullet proof vest outside the Draeger’s Supermarket in Menlo Park, CA yesterday.

Have they wisely acquired a stock of “Trump Pills” to treat those with symptoms, to keep them from progressing into the Intensive Care Units?

That’s a Game Changer!

There are morons who thought that the farms would be abandoned because everyone was told to stay home. Some wanted to steal for scrap, others wanted to steal other things. The scrap stealers have been turned over to the county sheriff.

You bet.

Hey....I like optimism, even if it’s cautious :-)

That’s half the battle.
