President Trump on Saturday night said the administration would not be issuing a quarantine on New York, parts of New Jersey and some of Connecticut as part of the efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

"A quarantine will not be necessary," he tweeted, noting that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) would issue a "travel advisory" later in the evening.

I don’t want to drag the rest of the world down with me. And God loves us (and hates death) and if you trust in God, you will be fine.

On the radio Morning Glory shows lately Monsignor Charles Pope (also in his blog linked on FR) he has been saying similar wise things.

Without a return to work and worship will we have to hear someday that all 720 people standing in the charity food line tested negative for the virus, so the peak may have passed? But most stores, restaurants, tourism areas and hotels are out of business?

Although I'm 73 I've read a lot of history about the Great Depression and heard from my grandparents. This time it would be worse as almost no one lives on a farm and can supply their own food. And people lack the cohesive family units, religious groups and community closeness of that era. Not 100% gone but much less than that time in history. Now the Dems would battle anything for advantage and to deny Trump a victory.

“I think in the end, Trump probably had no legal authority (because his legal staff was looking into that) and without the 3 governors approval, how would you enforce?”

He had every legal authority to order a complete blockade of those states, and enforce it with the NATIONALIZED National Guard...even the US Army.

Congress has given this power to POTUS for over 100 years, and most recently updated it in 1976.

The legality is unchallenged.

“The actual mortality rate of Covid-19 is UNKNOWN, because the actual number of infections is unknown.”

The exact same fact can be stated of the flu. Every year.

The vast majority of cases are never counted, but estimates abound.

Cuomo bragged his State has 40% of all cases. Seems appropriate to quarantine the State since they have such terrible hygiene.

You’re correct that the denominator is understated, but we need antibody testing to approximate the total number of cases. It’s not available yet so we have to work with the data we have. It’s still likely the mortality is much higher than the flu. There are probably millions of mild flu cases that aren’t captured in statistics either.

We were told that as testing surges, the mortality should go down, but the opposite has happened. If it’s a hospital resource problem, then it’s important to continue efforts to flatten the curve.

Do all of the Knuckleheads out here if you remember yelling at me because I was questioning whether President Trump actually said he was going to quarantine or not I pointed out to watch what he does not what he says. He always over dramatizes things that he might do when he has no intention of doing them. Look back at his three-year track record this is a tactic he uses to run circles around the media and the enemy.

Are all those deaths proven to have Covid-19 as the primary cause? Or are they the numbers of all deaths, including those completely unrelated to Covid-19, published to incite fear?

You have no idea, and you shouldn’t be posting unverified
propaganda.

Wow. Those are the numbers we have; collected and posted by Johns Hopkins. They’ve been agreeing with the numbers sourced elsewhere.

What numbers do you propose we use?

I supposed our entire health-care network could be in on the conspiracy.

The point of posting those numbers was to show that there is indeed a very strongly localized problem that is, currently at least, very out of whack from the rest of the country - which is not seriously in dispute. As for what to do with that information? That is a different question. The CDC has apparently, with the President’s agreement, decided to issue a travel advisory.

“The exact same fact can be stated of the flu...”

You are right. That is why they never report mortality rates with the flu - just the number of deaths.

They have NO IDEA how many flu cases there are, because most are never reported. They would need that denominator in order to calculate the rate, and they don’t have it - so they just report the flu deaths - around 35,000 to 55,000 per year in the USA.

They should do the same with Covid-19 - just report the deaths - 2100 so far. They have no idea how many unreported cases there are - they don’t have enough information to calculate the rate - just as with the flu.

Reporting the rate of deaths per CONFIRMED cases produced a highly inflated % - that serves only to create panic.

Yep, many believe in spread the wealth, and apparently, many believe in spread a virus, as well. GG. /s
