Are you convinced that all candidates running for political office are the same?
Do you see politics as just another career choice, where candidates work their way up the ladder and once elected to the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate use their power, influence and our tax dollars to keep their jobs for life?
Are you annoyed that the party establishment hand-picks the candidates to fill the important posts, then lays out the bread crumbs for the rest of us to dutifully follow to the polls?
Just when you thought there was no way that an honest, selfless citizen could hack his way into the political hierarchy, along comes a man who breaks all those unwritten rules and comes out on top.
However, Dr. Tom Coburn, the family physician from Muskogee, Oklahoma, who just won the Republican primary for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by the retiring Don Nickles, is one extraordinary man.
Kirk Humphreys was the candidate endorsed by the big-name officeholders in the state. All the major political players had put their money on the former Oklahoma City mayor, who had amassed a huge campaign war chest.

Coburn was a "troublemaker" to the Lott and McConnell types. He denied unanimous consent numerous times, forcing recorded votes and upending insidious plans.
We should be grateful that he lived, that he was elected, and that he dared to battle the oligarchs.
The battle continues.
And he was a good doctor as well. Was in my wifes class at OU Med
Tom Coburn was a GOOD man....not many in politics today! Not ONE in the Democrat Party!
Sadly there are but a handful of good guys.
I flew into Tulsa a gazillion Friday nights and saw Tom holding mini town halls in the DFW lounge areas. Time after time. I’ve attended over a dozen.
He believed in Democracy.
I always thought highly of Tom Coburn. Yes, the battle continues. It’s been going on a long time before the founding of this republic. No justice, no republic.
RIP to one special gentleman. Thank you for your service to our country.
My daughter and I volunteered in Coburn’s campaign. The Republican establishment tried to defeat him in the primary. When he overcame that, they gave him little help in his campaign. The people working on his campaign were mostly grass roots types, including many, many homeschoolers.
When it became apparent that he was going to win, Republican politicians from other states sent some of their people in at the last minute, trying to take over and take credit for the win. They were extremely rude to the homeschool teens who had been manning the phones.
The divide in the Republican Party was obvious even then at Coburn’s victory party. There were the happy, fun-loving homeschoolers and others who had worked on his campaign from the beginning, and the political types huddling together, drinking, and not looking all that happy. I’m sure they were planning on how to properly “guide” Dr. Coburn when he got to Washington.
Dan Lipinski is the last decent Rat and they primaried him.
One of the Republican candidates running against Kendra Horn in OK-5 is Janet Barrisi. She has been a Dentist for 35 years, co-owned an oil and Gas Co. With her husband as well. I highly recommend her and am supprting her. I have known her through her husband for years. She was the Superintendent of Schools for the state until the Unions defeated her. She also is bucking the Republican Establishment and is a staunch, real conservative. She reminds me of Coburn -principled, conservative, and a life long health care professional who is needed during these times.
