I have an Excel spreadsheet featuring the world, Italy, South Korea (have a look at them!), and the US including minus WA state, the hardest hit with fatalities.
I make regression models on them to see how they’re going.
Italy is in terrible shape, but why is that? Is it the factors already discussed - many Chinese direct workers, older population, high smoking prevalence? Socialist medicine? Does it also include scuttlebutt about Italy calling anyone who dies that had COVID as having died FROM it?
No, true, it’s not great, but I still need more context - what do other diseases do, how does this disease ACTUALLY act (not “we’re all gonna die!!!!” hysteria) - I’m seeing MANY people simply get over it within the week, if not in a few days.
I don’t totally know yet that this is the Black Plague. Don’t laugh that off glibly. It’s easy to extrapolate that the latter had at least a death rate of 40% - 40%+! That’s guaranteed death. Even if we halve it to account for great advances - that’s still damn scary. Yet we’re hysterical over a 5% (at best, unless you’re Italy) rate.

My wife takes the drug every day for lupus. Very safe for a couple of weeks. It can create problems in ocular health over the long haul.
You can still order various formulations of quinine online, in stock, even from Amazon. I did.
My sister-in-law has taken it for 22 years for RA, with no side effects.
