DENVER (KDVR) -- Frustrations are boiling over for many Coloradans trying to navigate the swamped medical system tasked with tackling the coronavirus outbreak.
“I’m proud to announce that the state lab in Colorado has eliminated it’s testing backlog,” Gov. Jared Polis said during his Wednesday press conference announcing a stay-at-home order for the state. “We’ve tripled our testing capacity.”
Polis made it clear that expanding testing is a priority. In his press conference he referenced the seven mobile testing sites the state has operated to date, and how he wants to expand testing in communities like Fort Collins, Grand Junction and Colorado Springs.
But the promise for more testing in the future doesn’t really help the people that need it now.
“My throat feels like glass,” said Robert Preston in between coughs. “My body aches all over.”

“It’s very frustrating because we’re kind of in a holding pattern,” Washington said. “We’ve been calling urgent care facilities, hospitals, anything we can think of, and nobody knows where we can go to get tested.” "

What state health departments say to do if you are concerned you have COVID-19
Colorado
Call your health care provider if you have symptoms. It is important to call ahead before going to see a doctor or emergency room to prevent the spread of illness. Tell them your symptoms and that you suspect you were exposed to someone with COVID-19 or had recent travel to a place that is experiencing community spread.
Providers determine if a patient should be tested. If so, they will give advice about where to go for testing, which is being conducted by the state public health lab and private labs.
Patients must be symptomatic and meet the state's criteria, which evaluates a combination of symptoms and risk factors, to be tested by the state public health lab. The public health lab can receive samples from providers and is conducting drive-up testing.
Test results from the state lab should be available within 72 hours, depending on testing volume. Private lab result times may vary.
DO NOT go to an emergency room to ask to be tested for COVID-19. If you are having a medical emergency call ahead to the emergency room or call 911 and inform the dispatcher about your symptoms.

The tests have to be approved by the feds. This is on the CDC and FDA. They screwed up criminally.
I hope the folks In Colorado get the help they need. A nephew of mine and his wife live in Boulder. Last I heard they’re ok. I work in a hospital in southern NJ. Yesterday I was told I may have been exposed to Covid-19. In the last three weeks I was told there were three possible exposures. This is number four. Later today when I report for work I have to be tested. I’m told the procedure is a rather quick but painful nose swab. Could be worse...
Site doesn’t tell you where to get tested.
But there is a site that tells providers how to collect a specimen. I get the impression that providers are supposed to collect the sample and send it somewhere.
Can’t believe these stories......PCP Dr’s know they have to direct people where to get tested IF they’re testing in the area and IF it’s necessary. Sounds like she has a poorly informed Dr.

Indeed they did...Wouldn’t be surprised if Colorados increase is because California’s elites have been leaving LA etc. to go to their cabin retreats in Colorado if they can’t or don’t have a beach house to rent out..

Selfish people should just get charged $50 cash for walking in the ed and recklessly endangering essential personnel. If the dr wants to give you a note for testing and you are ambulatory.. he should have his wife collect it.
I hear ya. Was in the medical field for 39 years. Especially after Obamacare came on the scene dealing with govt red tape was appalling. Worst thing in the world you can hear is “I’m from the government and I’m here to help”.
