Atlanta hospitals overwhelmed by coronavirus patients
CBS News ^ | Mar 25,2020

At Atlanta's Grady Hospital, all 100 beds in the intensive care unit were full. Then COVID-19 hit. Viral patients are now quarantined wherever the hospital finds space.

"The stress is not just capacity," Chief Medical Officer Dr. Robert Jansen told CBS News. "It's not just stress of supplies, but on the individuals taking care of the patients. Because so much is not known."

At all of Atlanta's four major hospitals, every ICU bed is taken.

"Just kinda deteriorated," said Justin Anthony, whose cousin is in one of those hospitals. "By Sunday, the fever had not broken and she started coughing.

His cousin, Emma, is 12, one of Georgia's youngest coronavirus patients. Emma's hooked to a ventilator at Atlanta's Children Hospital.

In Alabama, a newborn baby girl is in isolation after her nurse tested positive for COVID-19.

Back in Georgia, at one rural hospital, 12 COVID-19 patients have died. That's more than in thirty-eight states. The hospital is overwhelmed.

"They've asked for help, but we can't give it," Jansen said.

...”nowadays we just run with whatever the news stories say’....

I've noted CBS is always looking and reporting anything they can sensationalize into a story to shock people with. As Nancy Pelosi said....'you've got to go to the extreme to get peoples attention".....otherwise the press won't cover you.

This article sounds like a play on perception designed to mislead. Are they talking about hospitals within the actual city limits of the city of Atlanta, with a population of under 500,000, or that beast everyone knows as Atlanta, with a population of over 5 million. I suspect that they are using city numbers to imply the metro area is overwhelmed, since there is no way that there are only four hospitals in a metro area of that size.

Exactly what they did and it was intentional.

Why don’t you go back out to the beach and party on. Just remember to hug Grandma for me afterward.

Care to speculate about WHY everyplace else in the world experienced the SAME EXACT thing if they didn't take any steps for it NOT to happen?
weird question. can you prove that something actually happened on every single place on earth unless they prevented it from happening? further, can you actually prove that the steps that were taken to keep it from happening was the exclusive reason that what didn’t happen? how can we even be sure that what happened really happened, or that what didn’t happen truly failed to happen?

“it almost appears as though people are actually rooting for the virus.”

... and some people go to great lengths trying to claim it’s nothing so ... there’s that as well.

Reminds me of when Reagan said, “everyone who is in favor of abortions is already here” I have to say that everyone who thinks there is “nothing to corona virus” hasn’t had it yet.

“And that has what to do with the current COVID hype and Trump’s desire to open up areas to normal activity where it’s warranted?”

I suspect that most here understand my DACA analogy.

we’ve got to be smarter about the MSM stories that are designed to send the us over the edge. that one wasn’t even particularly well done, and look what happened.

I don’t know about this hospital, but most large trauma hospitals are also teaching hospitals. They do clinical trials. The Staff is experienced and quick on their feet.

People have been gaslighted into believing the hospitals are overrun with the dead and dying from CORONA-19. The US Navy hospital ships Mercy and Comfort each have 1,000 beds and only 80 beds for intensive care and have been sent to help with the “overloaded hospital system”, as reported by the government and the media.

However, that’s a complete lie.

Colorado State has 1,849 intensive care beds, 11 times that of both ships combined. Colorado has also has 12,558 hospital beds total, or 6 times the beds of both ships.

New York State has 3,000 intensive care beds, 18 times that of both ships combined. New York State also has 73,931 hospital beds in total, or 36 times both ships combined.

In the US, there are 6,146 hospitals with 924,107 hospital beds with 97,776 intensive care beds. The gaslighting of Americans is that two ships of 2,000 beds total and only 160 intensive care beds is absolutely necessary to a hospital system with 462 times the number of beds and 611 times the number of intensive care beds because somehow the virus is overloading the hospital system.

Colorado has had 100 intensive care patients with the virus. That’s it. 100. That number will change, but it isn’t anywhere near the gaslighted emergency the government and media has tried to convince people is happening.

I’m confident we’re allowed to have an opinion on coronavirus without the benefit of having been infected; I’m also allowed to have an opinion on abortion despite the fact that I’ve never been pregnant.

Spot on. The “fearpers” gleeful propaganda about Americans dropping dead in droves is perplexing and, to put it bluntly, sick.

This virus isn’t in the same category as the Spanish Flu, nor is it as dangerous and deadly as the 2009 H1N1 disaster.

I’m curious: Where were all these “we’re all going to die!!” fearmongers then? Where was the lying, panic mongering media in 2009?

Oh, that’s right: Emperor Obama was in power then.

Certain fearpers are behaving like ghouls. It’s as if they get off on the idea of mass deaths.

Our liberties and lifestyle are being destroyed, but the ghouls applaud it.

For example, the moronic mayor of Tuscaloosa has instituted a 24 hour curfew. Good luck with that one, Mayor Maddox. Especially if some UA students are still in town.

Our normally level headed Governor has given in to the hysteria and today she announced that all Alabama schools would be closed for the year. Ridiculous.

All this hysteria and doomsday predictions have inspired my new tag line.

Nah.

I’m fine.

Hopefully none of your family falls asleep with you in the room. Those are the people in real danger.

“Years? How much toilet paper do you have!?! Or maybe you are really constipated. I do know you full of s$#t though.”

Most people who PREPARED for this virus arriving at our shores and understood its long-term consequences (that it will be years before people can walk into Costco and buy whatever quantities they want of stuff). So, while the FluBros were busy telling us that it was the dirty habits of the Chinese (as though NYC doesn’t exist, LOL) and therefore the virus would never come here, we were taking advantage of the last days of plenty.

I've wondered if it's some flavor of subconscious death wish.

BECAUSE the government of every stinking state has been taking measures exactly so this won't happen. IF nothing was done then yes this would have happened. It's kind of like a fire in the corner of your living room. Someone says "hey if we don't put it out it will burn down the whole house!" To you that stupid alarmism. And when someone does put it out you later say "See I was right...you were panicking over nothing!"

Large public teaching hospitals like Grady are routinely full, operating at capacity. Because they are staffed with the most advanced specialists of all types, they are the referral centers for smaller hospitals for complex patients of any diagnosis. There is often a considerable que for patients awaiting transfer. They cannot and will not be the primary reservoir of care should the worst case scenario of this virus materialize. Fortunately, smaller hospitals can manage ventilators just fine.
