The requirement for Americans to obtain a Real ID for travel will be delayed one year, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Thursday.
Americans will now have until Oct. 1, 2021 to get Real ID Act compliant identification needed to board commercial flights, enter federal buildings or gain access to American nuclear plants.
President Trump recommended the delay earlier this week to ease crowding at Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices.

Do you really think that the courts will allow 30+ million illegals to be barred from air travel?
Neither do I.
I also means they’ll get the $1,000.
Calling it what it is ... a panic.
When I renewed my driver's license in 2015 Texas was not issuing the RealIDs, so I would have been affected by the original deadline. Fortunately, I was able to get mine renewed last month, 18 months before expiration and before the onset of COVID-19. It's pretty hard to renew right now - all the driver's license offices are closed.
Should be scrapped completly.
I’ve often wondered about the real ID implementation.
That law was passed as a reaction to September 11th, and here we are, almost 20 years after September 11th, with that law still not fully in place.
My rhetorical question is how important was it, to upgrade ID standards, when we take 20 years to enforce this law?
It will go down like this.
The day after the deadline Juan Lopez Ramirez will try and board a flight from Oakland to Chicago with his CA Drivers License. He will be denied boarding. Some activist group will immediately sue on his behalf and the law will be stayed. I predict that at the end of the day even SCOTUS won’t be willing to tell that many people that they’re banned from airplanes.
Real ID = passport
All this other crap is just because theyre issuing drivers licenses to illegal aliens here in California
This is my silver lining! I was going to have to renew my license one year early because of this. Now I don’t.
