I have seen 19 patients come in with heart problems like inflamed heart muscle or inflamed heart sac, new onset congestive heart failure and heart rhythm problems. I still order a test to see if the troponin is elevated (if the three heart muscle regulator protein amounts are elevated it will show there is heart damage) but no heart doctor will treat a covid-19 patient no matter how bad the number is. Even the non-covid-19 heart attacks are getting the drug that breaks up clots and getting the recue balloon-catheter-stent at 60 minutes if the clot breaker fails.
And you are M.D. also?
It’s uncommon, but just about any virus can attack the heart. Frequently when it happens, it happens to an otherwise young, healthy person. (I’ve also seen it happen in children).
I talked to someone a couple of months ago who had a family member this had happened to about 5 or 6 years ago. He had what he thought was a bad cold and bronchitis. He was in his 20’s, had never used drugs, nonsmoker, nondrinker, athletic, in great shape.
The left ventricle of his heart-the largest chamber, the one that pumps blood throughout the body- was nearly destroyed. He has a mechanical device implanted that helps his heart continue to function.
This is the first I’ve heard of COVID19 affecting the heart. I’m not saying it’s true or not true, I just hadn’t heard it before. That is, affecting the heart more often than usually seen with viruses- as I said before, this happens from time to time with viruses.
Why won’t the cardiologist treat?
