My daughter works for a company that does high school testing for ACT, SATs, etc. The student gets online with an employee of the company. The student has to use a cam to demonstrate that they are alone in the room, have no books or notes within their sight and no interaction on their cell phones. Basically making sure that the student doesn’t cheat. Cannot congress work this out somehow like companies that proctor tests online??

my perception is that mcconnell is holding off senate e-voting because of the potential for abuse that e-voting in the house might permit.

abuse could work in several ways:

* falsified voting, eg through security breaches allowing foreign countries to penetrate congress’ internet (even more than now and in the recent past);

* proxy takeover schemes, such as pelosi browbeating rookie congresspeople into consigning their e-votes to her for all or crucial votes on the house floor;

* fraudulent claims, such as when a congressperson e-votes one way at the sending client voting device but (somehow) the vote is recorded differently at the receiving server vote tallying device.

voting in person completely and reliably avoids all these problems.

the reason for caution is that all of these votes affects the economy and the military and political stability of the entire world, hence the eternal presence of huge temptation for wrongdoing. once inaccurate voting (data) is introduced (bad data injection) it may be almost impossible to rectify, and the implications spread quickly between systems affected.

for example, if the vote concerns senate or house voting procedures, a flawed and corrupt congressional e-voting system may be locked in, in effect,... forever. that would be a disaster that could have much worse ramifications than covid-19.

Of course they can.

Once Demsheviks have lost the House, a lot more will be accomplished. In Trump’s second term good things will be happening at Trump unchained speed.
