Sen. Loeffler, NYSE CEO husband defend stock sales after her private coronavirus briefing

Sen. Kelly Loeffler and her husband's firm, which owns the New York Stock Exchange, defended on Friday the propriety of the couple's sales of up to $3 million worth of stocks after she was privately briefed by federal officials about the coronavirus outbreak.

At the same time, two good-government advocacy groups filed complaints against Loeffler, R-Ga., and other senators, in connection with their sales of stocks after that closed-door briefing on Jan. 24.

"I am very confident that we have followed the letter and spirit of the law," Loeffler said said in an interview on CNBC's "The Exchange."

"I had no involvement in the decisions" to trade the stocks, the freshman lawmaker said.

Instead, Loeffler said, those decisions involving nearly 30 trades were made by third-party investment advisors without any input by herself or her husband, Jeff Sprecher, , CEO of both the NYSE and its holding company, Intercontinental Exchange.

Loeffler did not identify those third-party investment advisors by name after being asked to do so.

The arrogance of this couple. They know that as the rich and powerful, they won’t be held accountable. Laws and accountability are only for average people. Barr won’t prosecute and Mitch will protect her from harsh circumstances nsequences in the Senate. Congratulations on your big Wall Street payday, Senator Loeffler

(At the same time, where is the media grilling of Feinstein? But the media’s double standard doesn’t keep me from imposing the same standard on all of them, including the corrupt Republicans)

She’s toast. Doug Collins is going to defeat her big time.

It’s funny how Senators/elected officials are _never_ in a position to make decisions about their finances and holdings yet, amazingly, leave office with millions worth many, many times over than when they entered “public service.”

I’ll be there to defend the lynching if this epidemic gets out of hand.

These people are “above the law”. But, when there is no law, what will protect them?

Just like no one will be punished for the entire Russia Gate, Steele Dossier, and spying on Trump, nothing will be done about this.....

If nothing, we should not let up public pressure on these people to either resign or make sure they are defeated at the next election....Republican or Democrat should not make a difference..

Are any of those a*******s in the senate NOT millionaires? Oh, that’s right, that’s how they became millionaires. What could possibly go wrong?

I think you are going to little bit over the top. The senator and her husband are worth $500 million. There were less than two million dollars of stock transfers that were done. This was effectively a blind trust situation. Sure, the optics don’t look good, but this appears to me to be legitimate. Burr, on the other hand, personally directed his stock trades. Very different situation.

It’s too much work to become a Senator to get rich.

What you need to do is to get your WIFE to become a Senator, and for you to invest and build based on pillow talk.

If you get caught, you can deploy the “Why are you afraid of strong women” defense, which makes GOP balls shrivel.

They may have deniability and legal cover, but that may not be enough to win in a primary against a determined opponent.

This Scream mask looking, appointed hag, came across as a real sleaze bag on Tucker.

Kemp is a real piece of crap too for appointing her. Hope he’s happy.

Georgia Gov, Brian Kemp showed the typical stupidity of southern Democrat-Republicans when he appointed this woman because she was wealthy and connected. Those days of patronage should be GONE and so should this senator. His ignorance and greed cost the party a very valuable seat.

You can bet the SEC knows who is the trader/s. Will they grill them on what public knowledge was used to justify the trades? And will they take the fall?

Precisely. But even if every single item on the charge sheet were true, why go after the Republican when the Democrats don’t go after their own? Are we really so hard up for demons to go after that we have to attack our own Senate majority? Aren’t there any Democrats that have done far worse? Like Biden, using Hunter as a cutout for his dirty dealings? Or big chunks of the Federal bureaucracy, for mounting a clearly illegal operation against the President under the color of law? Are the Federal courts so packed with conservative judges that we’d like to stop appointing them for the rest of the year?

Are you serious?
This would put you or me in jail.

She is no different than Burr; they just used different tools.
She used secret information to capitalize on a future falling market of which her husband was the controlling market executive.

Do you really believe that she and her NYSE president husband accidentally and coincidentally unloaded millions of dollars of stock?

And do you believe that the fact that they have $500 million means they would never take advantage to make another mere million or two?

And how many of those ill-gotten millions do you think she used (political donations) to buy herself a Senate appointment?

You are no different than those democrats who excuse their politicians no matter what crimes they commit.

These republicans need to go down, and fast.
