The only welcome victim of coronavirus will be the myth of the 'entitled millennial.' Let us hear no more accusations of individualism, selfishness and over-avocado-eating from older generations. Many baby boomers now owe their lives to the selflessness of the young.
The civic restrictions introduced across Europe in recent days are intended to slow the spread of COVID-19, and keep hospital beds and respirators available for critical cases. But this lock-down will also rob a generation of education and income.
Yet in the midst of these bewildering times, there are signs of hope for the post-corona future. Humans have once again become humane.
And new economic models suddenly seem possible. The concepts of state regulation, suspension of markets, public money for businesses and individuals, nationalism of key industries, debt and rent holidays and even basic income are now spoken of as common sense. Only a week ago this would have been unthinkable.
Now that we have breached the economic imagination barrier, we can push further and conceive of new sustainable modes of consumption, production, distribution and energy generation. Those arguing for a green new deal should seize the moment and demand a recovery plan that results in a sustainable society operating within its environmental means.
Younger generations have led the calls for a drastic response to the climate emergency, only to be thwarted by obstinate elders. And now the youth are trading liberty, prosperity and opportunity for the benefit of those same seniors, weakened both in body and argument. As compensation for the coronavirus lock-down, the youth should be given what they have already demanded: a fossil fuel-free future.

you see, this is what the fearmongers have wrought.....

compensation, eh? As if the only lives being saved are ‘boomers’.
The entitled millennials have gone stark raving
>>Many baby boomers now owe their lives to the selflessness of the young.
who went partying
The older generations fought thru the depression, WW II, Korea and VN. For those that survived their future was not robbed for a few years of their life.
Their lives after those events were what they made of them.
But now it’s going to be “All hail the government. Save us.”???
Young people becoming drones for the government? Don’t think they would like the New World Order.
Using old folks as props when convenient to dismantle freedom.
Stopped reading there.... What a bitter demented millennial prick. I suspect his real issue is that giraffe neck, crooked nose and receding hairline has him all worked up. He is the poster boy for what is wrong with most (not all) millennials.
The Coronavirus is a BLACK SWAN event. Will it change our world? Yes, but not the virus, but rather the way governments around the world reacted to the virus.
Globalism as it pertains to outsourcing vital industries and open borders is dead.
China as a growing colonial power, is dead.
Nationalism is alive and well.
Unlimited and free migration from poor nations to rich nations is dead.
Agreed! By writing about the death of the entitled millennial, this millennial proves that millennials, as a generation, are entitled.
I wonder if the author is intelligent enough to understand that contradiction?

Right. That’s why they kept themselves from the beaches in Florida.
Yes, it isn’t the elderly flocking to FL for spring break - but they will be killed by it.
I suspect a lot of young people are going to either learn how to cook their own meals or go bankrupt ordering out for a couple of months...
About 10 years ago i noticed a dramatic rise in young people with chronic conditions like copd and t2 diabetes. I remember saying this generation is sicker younger, decreasing their life expectancy. So before you panic the world, additional data is needed. 99 percent of the dead have underlying serious conditions. I suspect this has not and will not change.
The ommision of the complete data is advancing a far deadlier disease a stricken economy. Thanks for assisting the socialists out to put the us economy in a coffin.
I agree, either intentionally or by accident, China has shot itself in the foot or higher.
What?
And if wishes were horses.....
While folks like these are writing fantasy, lots of hard-working people are out in the real world, making real things happen.
The author is Joel Dullard, not Joel Dullroy.

I respectfully disagree.
Rather than kill Globalism, this will hasten its advance.
The narrative is already written, and it will go something like this: "In the wake of this crisis, the world needs better control and surveillance of citizens in order to track those who were infected. China is the model for this. Further, China's stricter controls of the Internet and social media allowed officials to stop the spread of misinformation and control panic."
Because the crisis is now global, it will elicit a "global response."
The powers that be already want to eliminate cash.
Filthy lucre: Paper money shunned for fear of virus spread
Once eliminated, there will not be a single purchase that people can make that won't be monitored, controlled, and regulated.
Globalism isn't dead - not by a long shot, and COVID-19 will only be an adrenaline shot for it's march towards tyranny.
