Panic buying and hoarding — it’s not about the virus!
American Thinker.com ^ | March 21, 2020 | Patricia McCarthy

It seems that nearly every community, especially those that surround our big cities, has been plagued by panic-buying amid the mass hysteria the media have whipped up around the Wuhan flu.

People are frantically buying toilet paper, for example, as though the companies that produce such items are about to be shuttered. They are not, but people are stocking up anyway. Are they all fearful of catching this flu? Maybe some of them are, which is why we are seeing face masks on people in lines to get into grocery stores. But the shelves are full by morning, thanks to the truckers who deliver the goods and the employees who work through the night to stock them.

But by afternoon, they are stripped bare — meat, produce, milk and eggs, all gone. It all seems so desperate until, as in New York, California, Illinois, and Connecticut, the governors of those states have shut their states down! They've ordered all sit-down restaurants closed and all other non-essential businesses closed. Many of these establishments cannot survive even two weeks without customers. They've put millions of their own citizens out of work with a snap of their fingers. They've ordered people to "shelter in place," to stay home, cloistered away from all other human contact but close family.

Now all this planning and hoarding seems very smart. Each of these states has a Democrat governor. These are the states with the most homelessness and the most ridiculous policies with regard to crime and the people who commit them; they are kind to criminals and thus cruel to their law-abiding citizens. Shutting everything down is just one more example of their inner authoritarianism.

The toilet paper thing is hilarious. Caraluzzi’s supermarket in Bethel, CT brought out pallets of toilet paper this morning (limit 2 packages) and it was cleaned out by 9am. People swarmed over it like bees in honeycomb. Many of them probably have enough toilet paper at home to last through Trump’s second term.

Because it’s a demand problem and not a supply problem there will come a time when toilet paper will either have to be massively discounted or it will sit in the store gathering dust until the nitwits who overbought use up their supplies.

***But by afternoon, they are stripped bare — meat, produce, milk and eggs, all gone.****

Was just at our local store a few minutes ago. Only thing stripped was toilet paper, wheat flour and other paper products. Meat and milk shelves were full. Freezers all full. There was even some bread still on the shelf.

Ammo is where its at. Can’t buy it in California without registering yourself and paying a $17 fee. Enjoy your rights and buy American made ammo this weekend.

My 87 year old father in law did what he thought was his obligation yesterday. He went to Walmart for the special senior admittance time. He said by the time he got to the toilet paper section there was only one package left. An older black woman, but much younger than him had it. She looked at him and decided he needed it more than she did.
When he told me this I asked if he needed any more TP.
Nope, I’ve got plenty just doing my part he offered.
Yes I know 87 shouldn’t be going out. No way to stop an adult in charge of his own affairs! Trust me, we have tried!

I assume there is a lot of grub in the supply chain that is not being used by restaurants/schools/etc and has to find a home somewhere. The amount of storage space is obviously pretty limited.

My wife went to our local Sam’s early afternoon to pick up a few things. The fresh and frozen food section was bare except for seafood and expensive cuts of prime and choice beef.

She spoke with an employee fro the meats dept. who told her the lines start forming before 6 AM and the place is stripped bare of all but what you see within two or three hours. He told her hundreds of people wait in line together for several hours for the store to open.

My first thought was, doesn’t that defeat the entire purpose of Social Distancing to flatten the curve?

From what I am hearing if you don’t have ammo already it’s too late, it’s already gone nationwide.

Panic buying is not directly caused but WuHanFlu. It is because people expect the government to shut down the country. The government has shut down the country. Every governor is taking advantage of the Chinese weapon launch to leverage himself into Despot status. We have had a successful Coup in the real meaning of the word, a sudden takeover of the system. The Chinese weapon will have accomplished its purpose when the US economy can no longer support the military. That is probably not the original aim of the attack but it accomplishes the same purpose.

It’s actually a programmed response - a sense of scarcity, and the idea that a deal that will only be there for a short time.

It’s why they sell cars by telling you:” These deals will be gone soon!”

Add to this a sense that there is a crisis and people feel they need to “do something,” ... and that would be “get toilet paper,” and you have the perfect storm.

I almost suspect this is an experiment by the elites to see how they can manipulate the public.

Jeff Bezos: “Hey... I’ll bet I can get a run on toilet paper, you won’t be able to find a roll anywhere!”

Bill Gates: “Lol. I know the public are a bunch of suckers - they bought Windows even though it s#cked - but I’d give you a billion if you could pull THAT off.”

In many areas to include the internet, ammo is as scarce as TP.

Well, unless you want to blast the bad guys with ratshot. That's still in stock at some places.

I’m starting to wonder if it’s even hoarding. Maybe it’s just planning for the strong possibility that the FluBros get their way, and Trump lets the virus rampage through the country. At that point, virtually all of our services we take for granted will be spotty, probably for years, so having a supply of food and other items might just be wise.

I learned my lesson during the Xlinton administration and bought up a bit of ammo during the Bush years. Of course it’s all at the bottom of a deep lake. FReepers have THE worst luck with boats.
